Sri Lanka At The Paralympics
Sri Lanka made its Paralympic Games début at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, with a single athlete (Kalika Pathirana) in track and field. The country has participated in every subsequent edition of the Summer Paralympics, but has never entered the Winter Paralympics. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, Sri Lanka won their first Paralympic medal through Pradeep Sanjaya, who won the Bronze medal in the Men's 400 metres T46. At the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, Sri Lanka won a bronze. Dinesh Priyantha Herath was placed 3rd in the men’s javelin throw F46 final. At the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Sri Lanka won its first ever Paralympics gold medal, with Dinesh Priyantha Herath taking gold in the men's javelin throw F46 category, setting a new F46 world & paralympic record of 67.79 metres. Dinesh Priyantha
Herath Mudiyansalage Dinesh Priyantha, also simply known as Dinesh Priyantha (born 15 July 1986), is a Sri Lankan Paralympic track and field athlete who competes in javelin T46 events. He also served as an important member for the Sri Lanka Army during the Sri Lankan Civil War. He was disabled after being shot at his left arm during the final stages of the war. He is the defending Paralympic champion in men's javelin throw F46 category. On 30 August 2021, he became the first ever Sri Lankan to win a gold medal at the Paralympics when he won the men's javelin throw F46 category. Para-athletics
Para-athletics is the sport of athletics practised by people with a disability as a parasport. The athletics events within the parasport are mostly the same as those available to able-bodied people, with two major exceptions in wheelchair racing and the club throw, which are specific to the division. Dulan Kodithuwakku
Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku (born 10 July 1990), also known as Samitha Dulan, is a Sri Lankan Paralympic track and field athlete. He made his first Paralympic appearance representing Sri Lanka at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Personal life Samitha Dulan was born and raised up in Deniyaya, Southern Province. He pursued his primary and secondary education at the Deniyaya Central College and Rahula College. Dulan suffered an impairment in his right leg after a tragic motorbike accident and took up para sports in 2017. He serves as a corporal of Sri Lanka Military Police and represents Military Police Sports Club. Career Dulan's fourth-place finish in the men's F44 category of the javelin throw event at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai secured his berth in order to obtain direct slot to compete at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
