Srey Santhor District
Srey Santhor (, ) is a district (''srok'') located in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. The district capital is Srey Santhor town located on the south bank of the Mekong River around midway between Phnom Penh and the provincial capital of Kampong Cham. Srey Santhor is in south western Kampong Cham and lies on the border with Kandal and Prey Veng provinces. It was briefly the capital of Cambodia during the post-Angkor era from 1431 to 1434. During the Middle Period, it was then known as Srey Sarchhor (). 2000 Floods Between July and November 2000, Cambodia was subject to catastrophic flooding in all provinces bordering the Mekong River. The Mekong literally burst it banks and Cambodia experienced the worst flooding in 70 years. As most of Srey Santhor district is low lying and parallels the Mekong, Srey Santhor is subject to annual flooding when the Mekong rises. Koh Sotin
Koh Sotin (, ) is a district (''srok'') located in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. The district capital is Chi Haer (town), Chi Haer town located around 10 kilometres south of the provincial capital of Kampong Cham (city), Kampong Cham by water, but some 42 kilometres by road. The district borders on the southern bank of the Mekong River and includes the islands of Koh Sothin and Koh Mitt in its area. The district is easily accessed by boat from Kampong Cham. Road access however, is via 12 kilometres of secondary road to National road 11 and then a further 18 kilometres to the intersection with National Highway 7 (Cambodia), National Highway 7. From this intersection in Tbong Khmom district is it a further 12 kilometres west to the provincial capital. This small relatively narrow district follows the south bank of the Mekong for about 25 kilometres. Mean Chey
Mean Chey (, , lit. "Victorious") is an administrative district (''khan'') located in the south-eastern part of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. As of 2019, due to boundary changes, its population decreased from 2008 but is the second most populous district of Phnom Penh. Administration According to the 1998 census, Mean Chey consisted of eight Sangkats with a total population of 157,112; the population recorded by the 2008 census was 266,865. In 2010 Khan Mean Chey was expanded by incorporating four communes from Kien Svay District, Kandal Province: Kbal Kaoh, Preaek Aeng, Preaek Thmei and Veal Sbov. In 2013, the latter four Sangkats, along with Chbar Ampov Ti Muoy, Chbar Ampov Ti Pir, Nirouth and Preaek Pra formed a new entity, Khan Chbar Ampov, taking Mean Chey's number of Sangkats to four. Baray (Kampong Cham)
A ''baray'' () is an artificial body of water which is a common element of the architectural style of the Khmer Empire of Southeast Asia. The largest are the East Baray and West Baray in the Angkor area, each rectangular in shape, oriented east–west and measuring roughly five by one and a half miles. Historians are divided on the meaning and functions of barays. Some believe that they were primarily spiritual in purpose, symbolizing the Sea of Creation surrounding Mount Meru, font of the Hindu cosmos. Others have theorized that they were primarily practical, holding water for drinking and/or the irrigation of fields. It is possible that the function was a combination of these explanations, or others. The building of barays is similar to the Eastern Indian and Bangladeshi tradition of building large reservoirs called ''dighi''.
