Sports In Poland
Poland's sports encompass almost all sporting disciplines, in particular: Association football, football (the most popular sport), volleyball, motorcycle speedway, ski jumping, track and field, team handball, handball, basketball, tennis, and combat sport. The first Polish Formula One driver, Robert Kubica, has brought awareness of Formula One Racing to Poland. Volleyball is one of the country's most popular sports, with a rich history of international competition. Poland has made a distinctive mark in motorcycle speedway racing thanks to Tomasz Gollob, Jaroslaw Hampel, Bartosz Zmarzlik, Maciej Janowski and Rune Holta. Speedway is very popular in Poland. Dawid Kubacki
Dawid Grzegorz Kubacki ( ; born 12 March 1990) is a Polish Ski jumping, ski jumper. He is a member of the national team and competed at the Winter Olympics in 2014 Winter Olympics, 2014, 2018 Winter Olympics, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics, 2022, winning two bronze medals. He is the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2019, 2019 World Champion on the normal hill and winner of the 2019-20 Four Hills Tournament, as well as the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2017, 2017 World Champion and bronze medal winner at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013, 2013 World Championships in the large hill team competitions. Henryk Dobrzański
Major Henryk Dobrzański (22 June 1897 – 30 April 1940), also known by his nom-de-guerre "Hubal," was a Polish soldier, sportsman and partisan. He fought in the Polish Legions in World War I, Polish–Ukrainian War of 1918, the Polish–Bolshevik War of 1919–1921 and the Polish September Campaign of 1939. He is however best known as the leader of the partisan unit known as the Detached Unit of the Polish Army which operated in 1939 and early 1940 near Kielce. Exploits of Dobrzański and his unit, considered the first partisans in Poland and arguably, of World War II, became a legend in Poland already during the war. Known as Hubal, he has been described as Poland's last "Romantic Hero" and compared to figures such as Robin Hood, William Tell, Till Eulenspiegel and Davy Crockett. ''The Ashes'' () is a 1965 Polish historical film, historical drama film directed by Andrzej Wajda, referencing the classic Stefan Żeromski epic novel of Polish Literature of the same name. Andrzej Wajda
Andrzej Witold Wajda (; 6 March 1926 – 9 October 2016) was a Polish film and theatre director. Recipient of an Honorary Oscar, the Palme d'Or, as well as Honorary Golden Lion and Honorary Golden Bear Awards, he was a prominent member of the "Polish Film School". He was known especially for his trilogy of war films consisting of ''A Generation'' (1955), ''Kanał'' (1957) and ''Ashes and Diamonds (film), Ashes and Diamonds'' (1958). Battle Of Somosierra
The Battle of Somosierra took place on 30 November 1808, during the Peninsular War, when a combined Franco- Napoleonic Spanish- Polish force under the direct command of Napoleon I forced a passage through a Spanish division stationed at the Sierra de Guadarrama, which shielded Madrid from direct French attack. At the Somosierra mountain pass, north of Madrid, a heavily outnumbered Spanish detachment of regulars, volunteers and artillery under Benito de San Juan attempted to block Napoleon's advance onto Madrid. Napoleon overwhelmed the Spanish positions in a combined arms attack, sending the Polish '' Chevau-légers'' of the Imperial Guard at the Spanish guns while French infantry advanced up the slopes. The 1924 Summer Olympics (), officially the Games of the VIII Olympiad () and officially branded as Paris 1924, were an international multi-sport event held in Paris, France. The opening ceremony was held on 5 July, but some competitions had already started on 4 May. Adam Łukasz Królikiewicz (9 December 1894 – 4 May 1966) was a Polish Equestrianism, horse rider, major of Polish Army, who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics. He was born in Lviv. He died in Konstancin-Jeziorna. He was a member of Polish Legions in World War I, Polish Legions and fought in World War I. In 1924 he and his horse ''Picador'' won the bronze medal in the Equestrian at the 1924 Summer Olympics, individual jumping competition.
