Sport is an important part of the culture of Western Australia. Major sports Association Football (Soccer) Association football is one of the most participated in sports in Western Australia. The Perth Glory currently competes in the national A-League as the only representative from WA. They were crowned A-League Premiers in the 2018-19 season. In the previous National Soccer League, Perth Glory was a relatively successful team by winning the last titles of the NSL (2002-03 & 2003-04). Perth Glory's home games are played at Perth Oval, although they have played finals at Perth Stadium. Western Australia Cricket Team
The Western Australian men's cricket team, formerly nicknamed the Western Warriors, represent the Australian state of Western Australia in Australian domestic cricket. The team is selected and supported by the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA), and plays its home games at the WACA Ground and Perth Stadium in Perth. Perth Hockey Stadium
Perth Hockey Stadium is Western Australia's premier hockey facility, with two world-class synthetic turf pitches, a large bar and canteen area and a function centre all available to the public. The venue holds up to 6,000 fans. The Perth Hockey Stadium (PHS) is located at the Curtin University in the south eastern suburb of Bentley, Western Australia. PHS played host to the 1985 Champions Trophy and also the 2002 Women's Hockey World Cup. Field hockey (or simply referred to as hockey in some countries where ice hockey is not popular) is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with 11 players in total, made up of 10 field players and a goalkeeper. The Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) is the national domestic 50-over competition for women's cricket in Australia. Featuring seven teams—one from every state, plus the Australian Capital Territory—each season's winner is awarded the Ruth Preddy Cup. One Day International
One Day International (ODI) is a format of cricket, played between two teams with international status, in which each team faces a fixed number of fifty overs, with the game lasting up to 7 hours. The World Cup, generally held every four years, is played in this format. They are major matches and considered the highest standard of List A, limited-overs competition. The international one-day game is a late-twentieth-century development. The first ODI was played on 5 January 1971 between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. KFC Twenty20 Big Bash
The KFC Twenty20 Big Bash was a domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in Australia. The competition was organised by Cricket Australia, and sponsored by fast food chicken outlet KFC. Perth Scorchers
The Perth Scorchers are an Australian men's professional Twenty20 franchise cricket team that competes in the Big Bash League. The Scorchers wear an orange uniform and are based in Perth in the Australian state of Western Australia. Their home ground is the Perth Stadium. The Scorchers are the most successful team in BBL history, winning a record five championships to date and being runners up on three occasions. They were defeated in their second final by the Brisbane Heat in BBL02.
