Space Rock
Space rock is a music genre characterized by loose and lengthy song structures centered on instrumental textures that typically produce a hypnotic, otherworldly sound. It may feature distorted and reverberation-laden guitars, minimal drumming, languid vocals, synthesizers, and lyrical themes of outer space and science fiction. The genre emerged in late 1960s psychedelia and progressive rock bands such as Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and Gong who explored a "cosmic" sound. Similar sounds were pursued in the early 1970s' West German '' kosmische Musik'' ("cosmic music") scene. Later, the style was taken up in the mid-1980s by Spacemen 3, whose " drone-heavy" sound was avowedly inspired by and intended to accommodate drug use. ''Royal Albert Hall October 10, 1997'' is a live album by the English space rock group Spiritualized, recorded during an October show at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of their 1997 tour of the United Kingdom. The album was released in late 1998. This was the last album recorded with the original Spiritualized line-up before frontman Jason Pierce sacked every member apart from keyboardist Thighpaulsandra and saxophonist Ray Dickaty. The six-piece band are joined by a horn section, string quartet and members of the London Community Gospel Choir on disc two, with 19 members in total. This expanded version of Spiritualized headlined Glastonbury in 1998, and was also filmed on '' Later... with Jools Holland''. This orchestral line-up signalled the dense musical style to come on their next album '' Let It Come Down'', released 3 years later. ''Everything Was Beautiful'' is the ninth studio album by Spiritualized, released under Fat Possum Records on April 22, 2022. The album contains influences from psychedelic music, gospel music, and classic rock. Recording and release The content of ''Everything Was Beautiful'' was taken from the same demo sessions as and serves as a companion piece to the band's previous album, '' And Nothing Hurt''. Put together, both album titles form the quote "Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt", taken from the 1969 novel ''Slaughterhouse-Five'' by Kurt Vonnegut. The album's lead vocalist, Jason Pierce, played 16 different instruments during the album. ''And Nothing Hurt'' is the eighth studio album by Spiritualized. The album was released on 7 September 2018 through Fat Possum Records in the United States and Bella Union in the United Kingdom, and is the band's first album in six years since 2012's '' Sweet Heart Sweet Light''. The album was announced on 11 June 2018, along with the release of the album's first singles, "I'm Your Man" and "A Perfect Miracle". The album was produced by Jason Pierce. '' Everything Was Beautiful'', the band's ninth studio album released in 2022, is intended to be a companion piece to ''And Nothing Hurt'' and was created from the same demo sessions as that album. Fat Possum Records is an American independent record label based in Water Valley and Oxford, Mississippi. Sanctuary Records Group Limited was a record label based in the United Kingdom and is, as of 2013, a subsidiary of BMG Rights Management solely for reissues. Until June 2007, it was the largest independent record label in the UK and the largest music management company in the world. It was also the world's largest independent owner of music intellectual property rights, with over 160,000 songs.
