Spike And Tyke (characters)
Spike and Tyke are fictional characters from the ''Tom and Jerry'' animated film series, created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Spike (who goes by different names in a few episodes - Killer for four episodes, Butch for two episodes, and Bulldog for one) is portrayed as an English Bulldog, who is generally amiable and friendly, and a loving father to his son Tyke in several episodes. However, Spike's character also has a very stern and fierce side for occasions, such as when he is defending his son Tyke. Spike made his early appearance as an unnamed Bulldog in the 1942 ''Tom and Jerry'' cartoon '' Dog Trouble'', and his first appearance and his first speaking role was in '' The Bodyguard'' (1944), where he was voiced by Billy Bletcher. Spike was voiced by Bletcher until 1949, from which point he was voiced by Patrick McGeehan, Jerry Mann, Bob Shamrock, John Brown, Stan Freberg, and Daws Butler, with a thick New Yorker accent similar to Jimmy Durante's. The Tom and Jerry, ''Tom and Jerry'' series consists of 163 Short film, shorts produced and released between 1940 and 2005. Of these, 162 are theatrical shorts while one is a made-for-TV short, subsequently released in theatres. 1940–1958: Hanna-Barbera/MGM cartoons The following 114 cartoons were directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio in Hollywood, Los Angeles. All cartoons were released to theaters by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Rudolf Ising was the producer of ''Puss Gets the Boot''; subsequent cartoons were produced by Fred Quimby through 1955. He presented a mock radio show for his media course, in which he performed an "unusual mix" of his heroes, interests and influences. Alan Marriott (born July 19, 1971) is a Canadian voice actor, voice teacher and dialect coach. Marriott moved to Vancouver, British Columbia to attend the Studio 58 acting school. He left Studio 58 to join the first season of Salmon Arm Summer Stock Youth Theatre (SASSY) and did two seasons with the company. Marriott spent four years working with the improvisational theatre group Vancouver Theatresports and also played the character of Aldous Bacon in VSL's original production of ''Suspect'' (an improvised murder mystery).
