Speed Skiing World Records
Speed skiing world records are the highest speeds reached in the different categories of this sport. Organization These records have been registered in the official competitions organized by the different federations which have managed this sport at a mondial level, across the time (ISS, FISV, FIS, ...). Today, all the races are supervised by the International Ski Federation (FIS). Nevertheless, this federation doesn't publish any record. Speed skiing is performed in two principal categories : * Speed One (S1), the best class, performed with specific speed skiing equipment *S2, the second class, performed with standard alpine skiing equipment (also called Production then Speed Downhil (SDH)) Records are existing for theses 2 categories, and also for age sub-categories (Juniors U21 : under 21 years old, ...) Speed skiing is the sport of skiing downhill in a straight line at as high a speed as possible, as timed over a fixed stretch of ski slope. There are two types of contest: breaking an existing speed record or having the fastest run at a given competition. Edmond Plawczyk (born 10 October 1971) is a French speed snowboarder living in Chateau d'Oex ( Switzerland ). In April, 2013, he became the fastest snowboarder in the world, with a speed of 203 km/h. Breuil-Cervinia (french: Breuil; it, Cervinia; Valdôtain: ) is a ''frazione'' of the ''comune'' of Valtournenche, and is considered one of the most renowned winter and summer tourist resorts in the Alps. Zeno Colò
Zeno Colò (30 June 1920 – 12 May 1993) was a champion alpine ski racer from Italy. Born in Cutigliano, Tuscany, he was among the top ski racers of the late 1940s and early 1950s. Career At the World Championships in 1950 in Aspen, he won gold medals in both downhill and giant slalom, and the silver in slalom. Two years later, at the 1952 Olympics in Oslo, he won gold in the downhill, and finished fourth in the giant slalom and slalom. Italy waited two decades for its next Olympic gold in alpine skiing, Gustav Thöni's win in giant slalom in 1972. Colò won the Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen in 1948, and took the slalom title there in 1949 and 1950. Following his near-sweep at Aspen in 1950, he also won all three North American titles in downhill, slalom, and combined the following week in Canada at Mt Norquay near Banff, Alberta. Gustav "Guzzi" Lantschner (12 August 1910 – 19 March 2011) was an Austrian-born German alpine skier turned actor. He competed in the 1936 Winter Olympics. A ski is a narrow strip of semi-rigid material worn underfoot to glide over snow.
