Space Truckin'
"Space Truckin'" is a song by English hard rock band Deep Purple. It is the seventh and final track on the '' Machine Head'' album and its lyrics talk of space travel. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore claims in '' Classic Albums: Deep Purple – The Making of Machine Head'' that the song composition started with the half-step riffs in the refrain, which were inspired by the theme music for the ''Batman'' TV programme composed by Neal Hefti. Blackmore asked singer Ian Gillan if he could write any lyrics over the riff, and the rest of the song evolved from there. Live performances When it was first performed live, the band appended an instrumental that was originally part of the song " Mandrake Root" from their first album but gradually evolved into a showcase for Jon Lord's Hammond organ and Ritchie Blackmore's guitar solos. "Mandrake Root" is a song by Deep Purple that is featured on their debut album '' Shades of Deep Purple''. Overkill (band)
Overkill is an American thrash metal band, formed in 1980 in New Jersey. They have gone through many lineup changes, leaving bassist D.D. Verni and lead vocalist Bobby Ellsworth, Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth as the only remaining original members. The band's current lineup includes Verni, Ellsworth, Dave Linsk on lead guitar, Derek "The Skull" Tailer on rhythm guitar, and Jeramie Kling as a touring drummer. ''Live in London'' is a live album from Deep Purple. It was recorded on 22 May 1974 at Gaumont State Theatre in Kilburn, London by the BBC for radio broadcast, but was unreleased on vinyl until 1982. It features the Mk 3 lineup of Blackmore/Coverdale/Hughes/Lord/Paice during the tour for their album ''Burn''. At one point during the album, keyboardist Jon Lord jokingly refers to himself as "Rick Emerson" while introducing the band. This is a combination of the first and last name of the keyboardists for progressive rock bands Yes and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, which are Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson, respectively. California Jam (also known as Cal Jam) was a rock music festival co-headlined by Deep Purple and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, held at the Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario, California, on April 6, 1974. It was produced by ABC Entertainment, Sandy Feldman and Leonard Stogel. Pacific Presentations, a Los Angeles–based concert company headed by Sepp Donahower and Gary Perkins, coordinated the event, booked all the musical talent and ran the advertising campaign. Don Branker worked for Leonard Stogel and was responsible for concert site facilitation, toilets, fencing and medical. The California Jam attracted 250,000 paying music fans. Ring Modulator
In electronics, ring modulation is a signal processing function, an implementation of frequency mixing, in which two signals are combined to yield an output signal. One signal, called the carrier, is typically a sine wave or another simple waveform; the other signal is typically more complicated and is called the input or the modulator signal. The ring modulator takes its name from the original implementation in which the analog circuit of diodes takes the shape of a ring, a diode ring. The circuit is similar to a bridge rectifier, except that all four diodes are polarized in the same direction. Ring modulation is similar to amplitude modulation, with the difference that in the latter the modulator is shifted to be positive before being multiplied with the carrier, while in the former the unshifted modulator signal is multiplied with the carrier.
