Southwest Limited (Milwaukee Road Train)
The ''Southwest Limited'' was a named passenger train operated by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (the "Milwaukee Road") on an overnight schedule between Chicago, Illinois, and Kansas City, Missouri. The westbound train (to Kansas City) was Milwaukee Road train No. 25, and the eastbound train (to Chicago) was train No. 26. For much of the train's history, a section of the ''Southwest Limited'' also operated between Kansas City and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. History The Milwaukee Road completed its first Chicago-Kansas City route in 1887, and began operating through passenger service between those cities soon after. The Milwaukee's route became more competitive in 1903, with the completion of a cutoff line in Iowa that reduced Kansas City travel time by some three hours. In conjunction with this improvement, the railroad inaugurated the ''Southwest Limited'' passenger train on the Kansas City route, utilizing new equipment and a faster schedule. The ''South ... Southwestern Limited (IC Train)
The ''Southwestern Limited'' was a night train, as #205 of the Illinois Central Railroad in the Southeastern United States. Running on the IC subsidiary Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad Vicksburg Division, from Meridian, Mississippi's Union Station (Meridian, Mississippi), Union Station to Shreveport, Louisiana's own Shreveport Union Station, Union Station, it was one of the few trains spanning the Mississippi River south of St. Louis, Missouri and north of New Orleans, Louisiana. For much of its history from 1934 to 1967 it was linked with the Southern Railway (U.S.), Southern Railway's ''Pelican (train), Pelican.'' Thus, the train carried sleeping car, sleeper cars that originated in New York City to Shreveport via Knoxville, Tennessee and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
