The Main Southern Railway is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. It runs from Sydney to Albury, near the Victorian border. The line passes through the Southern Highlands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Riverina regions. Description of route The Main Southern Railway commences as an electrified pair of tracks in the Sydney metropolitan area. Since 1924, the line branches from the Main Suburban railway line at Lidcombe and runs via Regents Park to Cabramatta, where it rejoins the original route from Granville. The line then heads towards Campbelltown and Macarthur, the current limit of electrification and suburban passenger services. The electrification previously extended to Glenlee colliery, but this was removed following the cessation of electric haulage of freight trains in the 1990s. Southern Line (Auckland)
The Southern Line in Auckland, New Zealand is the name given to suburban train services that operate between Britomart Transport Centre in central Auckland and Pukekohe via Newmarket. Routing From Britomart to Newmarket, Southern Line services use the Newmarket Line, then follow the North Auckland Line to Westfield Junction, and from thence onto the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) line as far as Pukekohe, the terminus of the Southern Line. In its entirety, this line follows the original 1875 North Island Main Trunk route between central Auckland and Pukekohe. The line, originally single-tracked, was duplicated, piecemeal, between 1909 and 1939. In 1915, the original single-track Parnell tunnel was bypassed by a twin-track tunnel. The Southern Line is a commuter rail line operated by Metrorail Western Cape, connecting Cape Town station in central Cape Town, South Africa with the Southern Suburbs and the towns on the west coast of False Bay, terminating in Simon's Town. History The Wynberg Railway Company was established in 1861 to build a railway line from Salt River Junction to Wynberg, which opened on 19 December 1864. In 1876 the company was taken over by the Cape Government Railways, and the line, which had originally been built to the standard gauge, was rebuilt to Cape gauge. The extension to Muizenberg opened on 15 December 1882, and a further extension to Kalk Bay on 5 May 1883. The final extension, to the naval base at Simon's Town, opened on 1 December 1890. Southern Line is a metre-gauge railway line in Thailand, owned by State Railway of Thailand (SRT), which runs through most of the provinces in the Central, Western, and Southern regions of Thailand. At 1,144.29 kilometres in length, it is Thailand's longest railway line. Southern Line (İZBAN)
The Southern Line ( tr, Güney hattı) is an electrified commuter rail line running south from Alsancak Terminal in Izmir to Torbalı operated by İZBAN, using trackage owned by the Turkish State Railways. The route services the densely populated areas of western Buca and central Gaziemir as well as Adnan Menderes International Airport via the rebuilt airport station. Between 2010 and 2016 the southern terminus of the line was Cumaovası near Menderes. On 6 February 2016, the line was extended about south to Tepeköy in Torbalı and on 9 September 2017 extended further south to Selçuk. All stations are wheelchair accessible with elevators. The Southern Line has carried approximately 1 million passengers in the first six months from opening and carries an average 40,500 passengers daily, making it the busiest commuter rail line in Turkey, surpassing the Haydarpaşa-Gebze Commuter Line in İstanbul that held the record for over 30 years.
