Southbank Tram Depot
Southbank tram depot is located in Southbank, Victoria, Southbank, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria (state), Victoria, Australia. Operated by Yarra Trams, it is one of eight tram depots on the Trams in Melbourne, Melbourne tram network. History Southbank tram depot opened on 8 February 1997 on the site of the former Montague railway station, Montague shipping shed replacing South Melbourne tram depot, South Melbourne depot. When the Public Transport Corporation was privatised in August 1999, Southbank depot passed to Yarra Trams. The depot was extended in 2009 as part of the E-class Melbourne tram, E-class tram project. Layout The main yard has nine roads, two of these inside a maintenance shed. There are also two stabling roads for the three Colonial Tramcar Restaurant cars, which also operate from this depot. St Vincent's Plaza is a major interchange of the Melbourne tram network, serviced by Yarra Trams routes 11, 12, 30 and 109. It is located in the wide centre median of Victoria Parade, wedged between the intersections of Gisborne Street and Brunswick Street. The interchange was one of Melbourne's first level access superstops to be constructed, opening on 24 July 2002 as part of the 'Tram 109' project. Z3 Class Melbourne Tram
The Z-class are single-unit bogie trams that operate on the Melbourne tram network. Between 1975 and 1983, 230 trams spanning three sub-classes were built by Comeng, Dandenong. The design was based on two similar Gothenburg tram models, and a prototype built by the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board. While the Z1 and Z2-class trams were very similar, the Z3-class had significant design changes. Since introduction they have had a variety of liveries, and modifications. The Z1 and Z2-class trams have been retired, with 87 Z3-class trams remaining in service. The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant was a restaurant operating from a converted fleet of three vintage W class trams in Melbourne, Australia from 1982 until 2018. History The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant Company was formed in 1981 by Melburnian businessman Paul Stephen-Daly to operate restaurant trams, with 1927 W2 class tram number 442 acquired for conversion after 55 years of Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board service. Conversion work commenced in 1982 at Preston Workshops, with the drop centre floor raised to give a level floor throughout, and a single entry door provided on one side of the tram. Two saloons were provided either side of a central kitchen and lavatory, one saloon seating 12 while the other seats 24 patrons. Public Transport Corporation
The Public Transport Corporation (PTC) was a Victoria State Government owned Public-benefit nonprofit corporation, statutory authority formed under the Transport Act 1983 which operated passenger and freight trains, trams and bus services.
