South Down (Assembly Constituency)
South Down is an electoral constituency for the Northern Ireland Assembly. It lies in the southern portion of County Down. The seat was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election for the Northern Ireland Assembly in 1973. It usually shares the same boundaries as the South Down UK Parliament constituency, however the boundaries of the two constituencies were slightly different from 1983 to 1986 as the Assembly boundaries had not caught up with Parliamentary boundary changes and from 1996 to 1997 when members of the Northern Ireland Forum had been elected from the newly drawn Parliamentary constituencies but the 51st Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected in 1992 under the 1983–95 constituency boundaries, was still in session. Members were then elected from the constituency to the 1975 Constitutional Convention, the 1982 Assembly, the 1996 Forum and then to the current Assembly from 1998. South Down (Northern Ireland Parliament Constituency)
South Down was a constituency of the Parliament of Northern Ireland. Boundaries South Down was a county constituency comprising part of southern County Down. It was created when the House of Commons (Method of Voting and Redistribution of Seats) Act (Northern Ireland) 1929 introduced first-past-the-post elections throughout Northern Ireland. South Armagh was created by the division of Down into eight new constituencies. The constituency survived unchanged, returning one Member of Parliament until the Parliament of Northern Ireland was temporarily suspended in 1972, and then formally abolished in 1973. South Down GAA
The Down county hurling team represents Down GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association, in the Gaelic sport of hurling. The team competes in the Joe McDonagh Cup and the National Hurling League. Down's home ground is Páirc Esler, Newry. The team's manager is Ronan Sheehan (dual player). The team last won the Ulster Senior Championship in 1997, but has never won the All-Ireland Senior Championship or the National League. South Downs
The South Downs are a range of chalk hills in the south-eastern coastal counties of England that extends for about across the south-eastern coastal counties of England from the Itchen valley of Hampshire in the west to Beachy Head, in the Eastbourne Downland Estate, East Sussex, in the east. The Downs are bounded on the northern side by a steep escarpment, from whose crest there are extensive views northwards across the Weald. The South Downs National Park forms a much larger area than the chalk range of the South Downs, and includes large parts of the Weald. The national park is the UK's most visited, attracting an estimated 39 million visitor-days annually. The South Downs are characterised by rolling chalk downland with close-cropped turf and dry valleys, and are recognised as one of the most important chalk landscapes in England. Southern Downs is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in 2001 as a replacement for Warwick. The district takes in the southern parts of the Darling Downs region along the New South Wales border. It includes the towns of Warwick, Goondiwindi, Stanthorpe, Millmerran and Allora. It also consists of several smaller communities such as Inglewood, Texas, Killarney, Wallangarra and Cecil Plains. The Darling Downs has traditionally been a conservative area, and Southern Downs is no exception. It has been a safe seat for the Liberal National Party and its predecessor, the National Party for its entire existence. Warwick had been in the hands of a non-Labor party since 1947.
