Sound Of Stockholm
Sound of Stockholm is an annual Swedish festival for contemporary classical music. The festival is based in Stockholm and was initiated by the composers Henrik Strindberg{{Cite news, url=http://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=1637&artikel=4166513, title=Tonsättare i tiden, newspaper=Sveriges Radio, date=9 November 2010 and Peter Lindroth during the 50th anniversary of the chamber music society "Samtida Musik". The festival is organised by some of Sweden's most prominent institutions for contemporary music including The House of Culture, Fylkingen, Samtida Musik, Kroumata, and Stockholm Saxophone Quartet. The festival first took place in 2010, when 1,400 people attended the 21 concerts and seminars. The festival has hosted several of the most prominent musicians, ensembles and composers from Sweden and abroad. Kroumata
Kroumata was a Swedish professional percussion ensemble which was active from 1978 until 2015. The name derived from the ancient Greek word for percussion instruments. The group was founded in Stockholm in 1978 by Ingvar Hallgren, Anders Holdar, Jan Hellgren och Martin Steisner. Its members had worked as percussionists in the military services in Sweden, and their aim was to perform percussion chamber music. In 1990, Kroumata entered into a contract with the nonprofit foundation Rikskonserter, which was a part of the Swedish Ministry of Culture. From 1990 until 2008, the ensemble was employed by Rikskonserter. Kroumata toured extensively in Sweden and internationally, and performed with orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and Berliner Symphoniker, as well as separately as a solo ensemble. Stockholm Saxophone Quartet
The Stockholm Saxophone Quartet (sv: Stockholms Saxofonkvartett) is a Swedish saxophone quartet dedicated to contemporary music. They have commissioned and performed more than 700 pieces written by some of the most established composers in the world. The group also co-arrange Sound of Stockholm - the biggest festival in Sweden for contemporary music. Annie Gosfield
Annie Gosfield (born September 11, 1960 in Philadelphia) is a New-York-based composer who works on the boundaries between notated and improvised music, electronic and acoustic sounds, refined timbres and noise. She composes for others and performs with her own group, taking her music to festivals, factories, clubs, art spaces and concert halls. Much of her work combines acoustic instruments with electronic sounds, incorporating unusual sources such as satellite sounds, machine sounds, detuned or out-of-tune samples and industrial noises. Her work often contains improvisation and frequently uses extended techniques and/or altered musical instruments. She won a 2012 Berlin Prize. Work Gosfield's work includes large-scale compositions, opera, orchestral work, chamber music, electronic music, video projects, and music for dance. Trevor Wishart
Trevor Wishart (born 11 October 1946) is an English composer, based in York. Wishart has contributed to composing with digital audio media, both fixed and interactive. He has also written extensively on the topic of what he terms "sonic art", and contributed to the design and implementation of software tools used in the creation of digital music; notably, the Composers Desktop Project. Wishart was born in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire. He was educated at the University of Oxford (BA 1968), the University of Nottingham (MA 1969), and the University of York (PhD 1973). Although mainly a freelance composer, he holds an honorary position at the University of York. Contemporary classical music is classical music composed close to the present day. Henrik Strindberg
Henrik Strindberg (born 28 March 1954) is a Swedish composer of contemporary music. He studied composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm from 1980 to 1987 where he studied for Gunnar Bucht and Sven-David Sandström amongst others. In 1985 he also participated in a summer course with Iannis Xenakis in Delphi. Apart from composing, he has been a member of the progressive rock band Ragnarök since the 1970s. The House Of Culture (Stockholm)
House of Culture (Swedish: Kulturhuset) is a cultural center situated to the south of Sergels torg in central Stockholm, Sweden. The House of Culture has been described as a symbol for Stockholm as well as of the growth of modernism in Sweden. Overview In 1965 the city's government announced an architectural competition won by modernist architect Peter Celsing (1920–1974). Kulturhuset is from most angles dominated by its concrete and glass façade structure, with the adjacent theatre building having a façade of stainless steel. The original intention had been for the museum of modern art Moderna Museet, to occupy large parts of the building, but the museum dropped out of the project in 1969. Fylkingen - New Music and Intermedia Art is an artist-run venue and member based organisation committed to contemporary experimental performing arts. Over 300 artists from various disciplines use the space to develop and present new work.
