Sooners
Sooners is the name given to settlers who entered the Unassigned Lands in what is now the state of Oklahoma before the official start of the Land Rush of 1889. The Unassigned Lands were a part of Indian Territory that, after a lobbying campaign, were to be opened to American settlement in 1889. President Benjamin Harrison officially proclaimed the Unassigned Lands open to settlement on April 22, 1889. As people lined up around the borders of the Oklahoma District, they waited for the official opening. It was not until noon that it officially was opened to settlement. The name derived from the "sooner clause" of ''Proclamation 288 — Opening to Settlement Certain Lands in the Indian Territory'', which stated that anyone who entered and occupied the land prior to the opening time would be denied the right to claim land. The designation "Sooner" initially had a very negative connotation. While "Boomers" were merely expressing "pioneer spirit" in their desire to take and settle ...

Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners are the athletic teams that represent the University of Oklahoma, located in Norman. The 19 men's and women's varsity teams are called the " Sooners", a reference to a nickname given to the early participants in the Land Run of 1889, which initially opened the Unassigned Lands in the future state of Oklahoma to non-native settlement. The university's athletic teams compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s Division I in the Big 12 Conference. The university's current athletic director is Joe Castiglione. In 2002, the University of Oklahoma was ranked as the Third best college sports program in America by ''Sports Illustrated''. Ottawa Sooners
The Ottawa Sooners are a Canadian football team based in Ottawa. The team plays in the Ontario Football Conference of the Canadian Junior Football League. The team has achieved success during its play in the CJFL, winning a total of four National Championships (1974, 1979, 1984 and 1992). After 35 years of competition (1960–1995) in the CJFL, the Sooners moved to the Quebec Junior Football League for the beginning of the 1996 season. There, the Sooners would win three Manson Cup Championships (1997, 2001 and 2002). The Sooners rejoined the CJFL for the start of the 2009 season. The Sooners have a long history in the city of Ottawa, and while playing in the QJFL they had developed a good rivalry with the Ottawa Junior Riders. A Girl Named Sooner
''A Girl Named Sooner'' is a 1975 American made-for-television drama film directed by Delbert Mann and based upon Suzanne Clauser's novel of the same name. Clauser also wrote the screenplay. Plot The story is set in Vevay, Indiana in the 1930s and revolves around the titular character, Sooner, a girl of unknown parentage who is being raised by an elderly backwoods woman, Old Mam Hawes ( Cloris Leachman), who earns a living making illegal moonshine. Hawes takes Sooner into town and attempts to collect foster care funds for raising Sooner, but this brings her worth as a guardian into question with the Sheriff (Don Murray). ''The Sooner It Comes'' is the name of Aloud's six song EP released on June 12, 2004. "(Hey Now) What's It To You" b/w "Mind Relaxer" was a "double A-side" single released in February 2004 ahead of the EP's release. The two tracks were recorded at Emaginary Studios in Scituate, Massachusetts in late January. Recording continued at Courtlen Studios in February.
