Sonic Boom Bap
''Sonic Boom Bap'' is the ninth solo Extended play, EP of American record producer and rapper, J57 (rapper), J57. It was released on September 27, 2017 through his imprint FiveSe7en Music and features several artistes including Tenacity, Exile (producer), Exile, Blame One, Toki Wright, amongst others; with music production from LuvJonez, Big Cats (producer), Big Cats and DJ Big Jeff. Background and composition The EP is the follow-up of ''Landmines'' which was released in 2016. In an interview with ''HipHopDX'', J57 revealed that the self-produced 8-track project comprises songs which could not make the cut for his upcoming album and thought they "were too good to go to waste", hence the release of the EP. The EP sees J57 rap about personal issues as evidenced in "My Resolution", "Sometimes" and "Same Old Jimmy", backed with hardcore hip hop sounds and a bit of jazz as seen in "Listening to Axelrod". J57 (rapper)
J57 is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, record label owner, and music video director that infuses hip hop with indie rock, pop, folk & Americana music. He is a member of the Brown Bag AllStars, a group of emcees he helped create while working at Fat Beats in 2004, and Jamo Gang, a hip-hop group along with Ras Kass and El Gant. J57 cites DJ Eclipse and his mentor DJ Premier, as his musical influences. East Coast Hip Hop
East Coast hip hop is a regional subgenre of hip hop music that originated in New York City during the 1970s. Hip hop is recognized to have originated and evolved first in the Bronx, New York City. In contrast to other styles, East Coast hip hop music has prioritized complex lyrics for attentive listening rather than beats for dancing. The term "East Coast hip hop" more specifically denotes hip hop originating from the East Coast of the Northeastern United States; Southeastern states such as Georgia instead fall under the umbrella of Southern hip hop rather than "East Coast hip hop". Hardcore hip hop (also hardcore rap) is a genre of hip hop music that developed through the East Coast hip hop scene in the 1980s. Pioneered by such artists as Run-DMC, Schoolly D, Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy, it is generally characterized by anger, aggression and confrontation. Rapper
Rapping (also rhyming, spitting, emceeing or MCing) is a musical form of vocal delivery that incorporates "rhyme, rhythmic speech, and street vernacular". Aleksander Thomas Manfredi, better known by his stage name Exile, is an American record producer, disc jockey and occasional rapper. Aside from his solo career, he is a member of the musical groups Emanon alongside Aloe Blacc, as well as Blu & Exile. Career Exile's first record appearances were as a member of the hip hop duo Emanon with the rapper Aloe Blacc. Toki Wright (born March 27, 1980) is an American rapper and educator from Minneapolis. His debut solo studio album, ''A Different Mirror'', was released on Rhymesayers Entertainment in 2009. Early life and education Toki Wright was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States on March 27, 1980. He attended Patrick Henry High School. He later graduated from the University of Minnesota.
