Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. David Patrick Thomas Myles (born May 12, 1981) is a Canadian politician, songwriter, and musician born in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was elected as the member of Parliament (MP) for Fredericton—Oromocto in the 2025 Canadian federal election. Dallas Michael John Albert Green (born September 29, 1980) is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter and record producer who records under the name City and Colour. He is also known for his contributions as a singer, rhythm guitarist, songwriter and co-founder of the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. Alan Syliboy
Alan Syliboy (born 8 September 1952) is a Canadian Mi'kmaw artist, author, and musician from Millbrook First Nation in Nova Scotia. Syliboy began working in various artistic mediums beginning the 1970s, including painting, mixed media, illustration and video. He has also published books and created films and music. His work is influenced by Mi’kmaw petroglyphs, particularly those located in Kejimkujik National Park, as well as quillwork and Mi'kmaw traditional oral stories. His work has been exhibited a numerous galleries across Canada and the world. A proponent of making art accessible, particularly within his own community, Syliboy designed T-shirts and paints drums. Mo Kenney
Mo Kenney (born 1990) is a Canadian singer/songwriter based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Catching the ear of noted Canadian rocker Joel Plaskett while still in school, Kenney released their first album in 2012, which Plaskett produced. Kenney is known for their lyrical prowess and engaging stage presence. Called "Nova Scotia's rising star" by ''The Scene'' magazine, they have toured with Plaskett as well as with Ron Sexsmith. Afie Jurvanen (born April 28, 1981), known by his stage name Bahamas, is a Canadian musician. Early life Jurvanen was born in Toronto and raised in Barrie, Ontario. His mother was winner of the Miss Finland contest in 1973. He speaks Finnish fluently, and he also has a Finnish passport. Career Jurvanen taught himself guitar. Peter Elkas (born July 24, 1976) is a Montreal-born Canadian musician. He played with the Local Rabbits from 1990 until 2001, releasing an EP and three studio albums. Two Hours Traffic is a Canadian indie rock band, based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. They are named after a line in the prologue to Shakespeare’s ''Romeo and Juliet''.
