''Song of the City'' is a 1937 American musical film directed by Errol Taggart, written by Michael Fessier, and starring Margaret Lindsay, Dean Jagger, J. Carrol Naish, Nat Pendleton, Dennis Morgan and Marla Shelton. It was released on April 2, 1937, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Errol Taggart
Errol Taggart (July 15, 1895 – August 30, 1940) was a Canadian film director and film editor who worked in Hollywood during the 1920s and 1930s. He was the editor of four movies directed by Tod Browning and starring Lon Chaney: ''The Unknown (1927 film), The Unknown'' (uncredited) with Joan Crawford, ''The Road to Mandalay (1926 film), The Road to Mandalay'', ''The Blackbird'', and the lost film ''London After Midnight (film), London After Midnight'' (uncredited). He also edited Browning's film ''Drifting (1923 film), Drifting'' featuring Wallace Beery and Anna May Wong in supporting roles, and was Browning's first assistant director on ''Freaks (1932 film), Freaks'' (uncredited) featuring Olga Baclanova and a cast of actual carnival sideshow freaks. Edward Norris
Septimus Edward Norris (March 10, 1911 – December 18, 2002) was an American film actor. Early years Norris was born in 1911, the son of a prominent Philadelphia gynecologist, who was described in a newspaper article as "a famous surgeon and chief of staff at the city's largest hospital." He grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At age 16, he dropped out of the Culver Military Academy to marry a socially prominent physician's daughter, Virginia Bell Hiller, and took a job as a reporter. Television Norris made his television debut in 1951 with two appearances on '' Fireside Theater''. During the course of his 12-year span on television he made two guest appearances on '' Perry Mason'': "The Case of the Fiery Fingers" (1958) and "The Case of the Tarnished Trademark" (1962). Francesco Giuseppe "Frank" Puglia (9 March 1892 – 25 October 1975) was an Italian actor. He had small, but memorable roles in films including ''Casablanca'' (a Moroccan rug merchant), ''Now, Voyager'' and ''The Jungle Book''. Biography Born in Linguaglossa, Catania, Sicily, the actor started his career as a teen on stage in Italian operas. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1907. He left from Naples on the ship ''Italia''. In New York City he worked in a laundry before joining an Italian language theater group. While appearing on stage, he was discovered by D. W. Griffith, with whom he worked in over 150 films. He usually played ethnic types in films, and claimed to have learned English from reading newspapers. He was originally cast as the undertaker, Bonasera, in Francis Ford Coppola's movie ''The Godfather'' (1972), even participating in Marlon Brando's screen test, but he fell ill before filming could begin. Fay Helm (April 9, 1909 – September 27, 2003) was an American film actress. Born in Bakersfield, California, she appeared in about 65 films between 1936 and 1946. She is perhaps better known for films like '' A Child is Born'' (1939), '' The Wolf Man (1941 film)'' (1941), '' Phantom Lady'' (1944), '' Lady in the Dark'' (1944) and '' Sister Kenny'' (1946). Early years Helm was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.G. Helm of Bakersfield, California. Her father was "a widely known oil operator" in Bakersfield. She participated in drama as a student at the University of Oregon and acted in productions at The Portland Civic Theatre. She also acted in the Bakersfield Community Theatre.
