"Somethin' I'm Good At" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Brett Eldredge. It was co-written with Tom Douglas and released on February 24, 2017 as the lead single from Eldredge's self-titled fourth studio album. Background The song was written in an hour after a five-hour session in which Eldredge worked on a ballad, and was recorded out of a desire to be spontaneous and have fun. Eldredge said of the song: "It made us write one of the craziest, out of nowhere fun songs I've ever written. I've never had so much fun recording." His ad libs and laughter were left on the final recording. Douglas and producer Ross Copperman also provided backing vocals. Commercial performance "Somethin' I'm Good At" peaked at number 21 on the ''Billboard'' Country Airplay chart, making it Eldredge's first single to miss the top 10 since "It Ain't Gotta Be Love" in 2011. Eldredge has had five No. 1 singles on the ''Billboard'' Country Airplay chart, three of which came from his debut studio album, ''Bring You Back'': "Don't Ya", " Beat of the Music", and " Mean to Me". Early life Eldredge was born on March 23, 1986, in Paris, Illinois, the son of Robin Beth (née Vonderlage) and Christopher "Chris" Eldredge. He has an older brother, Brice. The lap steel guitar, also known as a Hawaiian guitar, is a type of steel guitar without pedals that is typically played with the instrument in a horizontal position across the performer's lap. Unlike the usual manner of playing a traditional acoustic guitar, in which the performer's fingertips press the strings against frets, the pitch of a steel guitar is changed by pressing a polished steel bar against plucked strings (from which the name "steel guitar" derives). Dan Dugmore is an American session musician known primarily for playing the pedal steel guitar Born in 1949, Dugmore was raised in Pasadena, California. Influenced by the Flying Burrito Brothers, he learned to play steel guitar after Flying Burrito Brothers member Sneaky Pete Kleinow sold him one. Dugmore then joined John Stewart's road band, and then Linda Ronstadt's; he also played for several James Taylor albums.
