Solicitor General Of The Philippines
The Office of the Solicitor General of the Philippines (), formerly known as the Bureau of Justice, is an independent and autonomous office attached to the Department of Justice. The OSG is headed by Darlene Berberabe. The Office of the Solicitor General is the "law firm" of the Republic of the Philippines. The Solicitor General is the principal law officer and legal defender of the Republic of the Philippines. The Solicitor General shall have the authority and responsibility for the exercise of the Office's mandate and for the discharge of its duties and functions, and shall have supervision and control over the Office and its constituent units. The Office of the Solicitor General also determines the legal position that the government will take in the courts and argues in virtually every case in which the government is a party. Pedro Tuason
Pedro Tiangco Tuason was a prominent Filipino lawyer and government official. Born in Balanga, Bataan on 15 September 1884 to Clemente Tuason and Josefa Tiangco, Tuason attended the public school in his town and at an escuela de segunda ensenanza. He was sent to study in the United States as a government pensionado, attending the New Jersey State Normal School in Trenton, then the Georgetown University Law School in Washington, D.C., where he graduated with the Bachelor of Laws degree in 1908, and finally the Yale Law School where he took a post graduate course. His name is sometimes wrongly spelled with the letter "z", such as the small stretch of a street named after him, but court decisions commonly use his original birth spelling. Lorenzo Tañada
Lorenzo Martinez "Ka Tanny" Tañada Sr. (, August 10, 1898 – May 28, 1992) was a Filipino statesman, lawyer, human and civil rights defender, and national athlete. He is often referred to as the "Grand Old Man of Philippine Politics." He served as the Solicitor General for two terms. Following his election in 1947 where he placed 1st with the highest number of votes among the Senate candidates, he then had a sterling career as a long-time senator in Philippine Senate History, being elected to four consecutive terms from 1947 until 1971, for a total of 24 straight years in the senate. He was a fierce nationalist and principled politician. A staunch opponent to martial law under Ferdinand Marcos, he marched and led rallies in the Parliament of the Streets. César Bengzon
César Fernando Cabrera Bengzon (May 29, 1896 – September 3, 1992) was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines from April 28, 1961 until May 29, 1966. In November 1966, a few months after his retirement, he became the first Filipino to be appointed to the International Court of Justice. Judicial career Bengzon earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ateneo de Manila in 1915. He graduated his Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines in 1919, and placed second in the Bar Examinations that same year. Starting out as a law clerk, he was promoted to Solicitor General in 1932 and Undersecretary of Justice under Governor-General (later U.S. Supreme Court Justice) Frank Murphy in 1933. Rafael Corpus y Mislán (October 24, 1880 – July 21, 1960) was a Filipino economist, politician, and statesman who served as both chairman and president of the Philippine National Bank. Early life and education Corpus was born in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines, and finished his Bachelor of Arts degree at the Ateneo de Manila University in 1897. He then studied at the University of Santo Tomas and later studied law at Escuela de Derecho in 1903. He then went to the United States to take up a post graduate course at George Washington University in 1905.
