Socialist Union Of Education Workers
The Socialist Union of Education Workers (french: Centrale du Personnel enseignant socialiste; nl, Centrale van het Socialistisch Onderwijzend Personeel, CSOP) was a trade union representing workers in the education sector in Belgium. The union was founded in 1913, and affiliated to the Trade Union Commission (SK). In 1924, it was joined by the Independent Trade Union of Education Workers in Antwerp. It also affiliated to the Teachers' International Trade Secretariat, and by 1935, it had 5,500 members. In 1937, it transferred from the SK to its successor, the General Labour Confederation of Belgium. Teachers' International Trade Secretariat
The Teachers' International Trade Secretariat or International Trade Secretariat of Teachers (ITST) was a global union federation bringing together unions representing schoolteachers. History The International Federation of Civil Servants and Teachers was formed in 1925, but in many countries, teachers were not part of the same unions as civil servants, and preferred to organise separately. As a result, in November 1926, the International Federation of Trade Unions sponsored the creation of a new "Teachers' International Trade Secretariat", which brought together the teachers' unions from the old federation, along with some other trade unions. The General Labour Confederation of Belgium ( nl, Belgisch Vakverbond, BVV; french: Confédération Générale du Travail de Belgique, CGTB) was a socialist national trade union federation in Belgium active between 1937 and 1944 when it was superseded by the General Labour Federation of Belgium. History The federation was established on 5 December 1937, as a replacement for the Trade Union Commission. It was more centralised than its predecessor, and was not formally linked with the Belgian Labour Party. By 1939, it had about 540,000 members, making it the largest trade union federation in the country. The General Union of Public Services ( nl, Algemene Centrale der Openbare Diensten, ACOD; french: Centrale Générale des Services Publics, CGSP) is a trade union representing public sector workers in Belgium. The union's origins lie in four unions active before World War II: the National Union of Rail, Post, Telegraph, Telephone, Marine and Aviation Workers, the Central Union of Public Service Workers, the Socialist Union of Education Workers and the National Union of Civilian National Defense Staff. These unions ceased to operate during the war, but various branches survived and in 1942 they formed the General Association of Public Services (ASOD). In 1945, the General Federation of Belgian Labour (ABVV) was established. At a conference on 28 and 29 April, it merged ASOD with several recently created unions of government workers, to form ACOD. Roger Dekeyzer
Roger Dekeyzer (18 June 1906 – 16 December 1992) was a Belgian trade union leader. Born in Ostend, Dekeyzer became an English teacher, and the unpaid secretary of the Socialist Union of Education Workers of West Flanders. In 1925, he joined the Belgian Workers' Party, and from 1928 he served on the executive of its Ostend branch. In 1935, he began working full-time for the Belgian Union of Transport Workers (BTB), as deputy secretary of its West Flanders district. The following year, he was promoted to become district secretary, and also secretary of the union's coastal area car drivers' section. In 1939, Dekeyzer was elected to both the Ostend Municipal Council, and the West Flanders Provincial Council. He fled to the United Kingdom early in World War II, and worked organising Belgian sailors there.
