''Snow White & the Huntsman'' is a 2012 American fantasy action-adventure film based on the German fairy tale "Snow White" compiled by the Brothers Grimm. Produced by Roth Films and distributed by Universal Pictures, the film was directed by Rupert Sanders (in his directorial debut) from a screenplay written by Evan Daugherty, John Lee Hancock, and Hossein Amini, and a screen story by Daugherty. Rupert Miles Sanders (born 16 March 1971) is an English film director. Sanders directed the films ''Snow White and the Huntsman'' (2012), ''Ghost in the Shell'' (2017), and ''The Crow'' (2024). He also directed the pilot episode of the Apple TV+ science fiction series '' Foundation''. Early life Sanders was born in Westminster, London, the eldest son of Thalia (née Garlick) and hospital ophthalmologist Michael Sanders. "Snow White" is a German fairy tale, first written down in the early 19th century. The Brothers Grimm published it in 1812 in the first edition of their collection ''Grimms' Fairy Tales'', numbered as Tale 53. The original title was ''Sneewittchen'', which is a partial translation from Low German. The modern spelling is ''Schneewittchen''. The Evil Queen (), also called the Wicked Queen or simply the Queen, is a fictional character and the main antagonist of "Snow White", a German fairy tale recorded by the Brothers Grimm.
