Slovak Olympic And Sports Committee
Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee (, SOŠV) is the National Olympic Committee representing Slovakia in the International Olympic Committee. It is based in Bratislava, Slovakia. History The Czechoslovak Olympic Committee is one of the oldest NOCs in the world, having been founded in 1899 as Bohemian Committee for the Olympic Games (). It was transformed into the Czechoslovak Olympic Committee in 1919 and then both the Czech Olympic Committee and the Slovak Olympic Committee (, SOV) was founded and reconstituted on 19 December 1992, and both NOCs were recognized on 20 January 1993. It is one of two successors of the Czechoslovak Olympic Committee (ČSOV) which dissolved on 27 March 1993. SOC was approved as the National Olympic Committee of Slovak Republic in Monte Carlo on 24 September 1993. In December 2018 it changed its name to the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee. Erik Vlček
Erik Vlček (; born 29 December 1981) is a Slovak sprint canoer who has competed since the late 1990s. He is a member of the Hungarian community in Slovakia. Since 2023 he has served as an MP of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. Competing in five Summer Olympics, he won three medals in the K-4 1000 m event with a silver in 2008, 2016 and a bronze in 2004. Vlček also won fifteen medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with ten golds (K-4 500 m: 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007; K-4 1000 m: 2002, 2003, 2015; K-2 1000 m: 2011, 2014 and K-2 500 m: 2014), two silvers (K-4 200 m: 2009, K-4 1000 m: 2005), and three bronzes (K-4 500 m: 2001, K-4 1000 m: 2007, 2009). Athletics At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Hammer Throw
The men's hammer throw at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on 15 August (qualifying) and 17 (final) at the Beijing National Stadium. There were 33 competitors from 26 nations. The event was won by Primož Kozmus of Slovenia, the nation's first medal in the event. The original silver and bronze medalists, Vadim Devyatovskiy and Ivan Tsikhan of Belarus, were disqualified in December 2008 for testing positive for abnormal levels of testosterone. The medals were awarded to Krisztián Pars of Hungary and Koji Murofushi of Japan respectively. Tsikhan announced that he and Devyatovskiy intended to appeal the IOC's decision. In June 2010 the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the disqualified Belarusians should get their original medals back due to errors at the Chinese medical lab. Libor Charfreitag (born 11 September 1977 in Trnava) is a former hammer thrower from Slovakia. His personal best throw is 81.81 metres, achieved in June 2003 in Prague. Career He was chosen Slovak athlete of the year in 2003. He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He had a highly successful season in 2010: he won the gold medal at the 2010 European Athletics Championships, beat all-comers at the 2010 IAAF Continental Cup and finished third in the inaugural IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge series, finishing behind Asian throwers Koji Murofushi and Dilshod Nazarov. |
Kazimír Verkin
Kazimír Verkin (born 27 March 1972 in Brezno) is a Slovak race walker. He set a personal best time of 3:57:17, by finishing sixth in the 50 km at the European Athletics Race Walking Permit Meeting in Dudince. Matej Tóth
Matej Tóth (; born 10 February 1983) is a retired Slovak race walker. He won the 50 km walk World Championship in 2015, and became an Olympic champion in the same event in 2016. Career Tóth won the gold medal in the 50 km walk at the 2010 IAAF World Race Walking Cup held in Chihuahua, Mexico, finishing with the slowest winning time since 1993. He finished first at the 2015 World Championships, taking Slovakia's first ever gold at the championships and completing the course two minutes ahead of his nearest rival. Tóth finished first at the 2016 Olympic Games in 50 km walk with a time of 3 hours, 40 minutes and 58 seconds, winning the first Slovak Olympic medal in athletics since the country's independence in 1993.
