Slovak Hip-hop
Slovak hip hop is said to have begun in 1988, before the establishment of the Slovak Republic itself. The first rap song released in Slovakia was done by Rap Steady Crew from Košice in 1993, followed by Jednotka slovenskej starostlivosti (JSS) with their album ''Kompromis'' in 1997 as well as the duo Trosky releasing their record. Long-running crews are Lúza and Drvivá Menšina, who perform together as Názov Stavby with DJ Hajtkovič. Vec, formerly of the seminal duo Trosky, is considered by many today to be the most influential figure within hip-hop music in Slovakia, although newer acts such as 2H+, A.M.O, MC Vrabec, Čistychov and Kontrafakt have also gained significant popularity since 2003. Slovak hip hop was considered to start becoming popular when Kontrafakt released their first music video, ''Dáva mi'', in 2003. It topped many video charts in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Košice
Košice is the largest city in eastern Slovakia. It is situated on the river Hornád at the eastern reaches of the Slovak Ore Mountains, near the border with Hungary. Kontrafakt is a Slovak hip-hop rap group which was formed by Rytmus, Ego and Martin Rády with DJ Anys in Slovakia, Piešťany Piešťany (; , , , ) is a town in Slovakia. Rytmus
Patrik Vrbovský (born 3 January 1977), better known by his stage name Rytmus, is a Slovak rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, and television personality. Early life Patrik Vrbovský was born in Kroměříž to an ethnic Romani family and raised in Pieštany. He co-founded the Slovak hip-hop group Kontrafakt. Career Early musical career Rytmus was active on the hip-hop scene since 1992. He released his first solo album, ''Bengoro'', in 2006; the album was reissued two years later with a new cover and a slightly modified tracklist. In 2008, he released the compilation ''Si zabil'', which sold over 4,000 copies in the first week and was awarded a gold record. Tomáš Pechlák (born June 9, 1978 in Czechoslovakia), professionally known as DJ Wich, is a Czech deejay, record producer and audio engineer, who works on the Czech and Slovak hip hop scenes. He is a former member of Czech hip hop duo Indy & Wich together with Andreas "Indy" Christodoulou. He started DJing in 1998.
