Medvednica
Medvednica (, ) is a mountain in central Croatia, just north of Zagreb, and marking the southern border of the historic region of Zagorje. Most of it is encompassed by the Medvednica Nature Park. The highest peak, at is Sljeme. Most of the area of Medvednica is a nature park (''park prirode''), a type of preservation lesser than a national park. During the Miocene and the Pliocene, the mountain was an island within the Pannonian Sea. Together with the surrounding hills, it is known as Zagrebačka gora or the "Zagreb Mountains", as well as Bistranjska gora, Markuševačka gora, Stubička gora and Vrabečka gora. Etymology The name Medvednica could be translated as "bear mountain". There are several other toponyms on the mountain using the Kajkavian dialect term ''medved'' 'bear' (compare Standard ), most notably Medvedgrad, a medieval castle on its southwestern edges. Zagreb TV Tower
OIV Tower Sljeme is a 169-metre (563 ft) tall TV and radio tower built of reinforced concrete on the summit of the 1035 metre (3450 ft) tall peak Sljeme of the Medvednica mountain north of Zagreb, Croatia. Zagreb TV Tower was built in 1973. It is open to the public, with a cafe and observation deck at level. On 4 October 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence, the tower was a target of a Yugoslav Air Force attack. The tower was bombed at 16:10 and as a consequence the entire fourth and fifth floors and a portion of the third floor sustained heavy damage, rendering the tower unusable. Two staff members present at the time of the attack were not hurt as they took shelter at the base of the tower. It took three months to repair the damage. During that time the television programme was broadcast via several low-power transmitters located within Zagreb itself and on top of the Medvednica Mountain. Sljeme (company)
Sljeme is a trunk-making company in Croatia founded in 1921 and held a Royal warrant of appointment to the court of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia from 1931 to 1941. History In 1921, Samuel Gati established Sljeme with the first shop at 12 Medulićeva Street in Zagreb. Gati was an Austro-Hungarian master malletier with over two decades of experience. In Zagreb, he began production of top-quality high-fashion trunks, car trunks, bags, gloves, and accessories under the name Sljeme. The company soon became famous for its excellent craftsmanship. They started exporting throughout Europe and took part in numerous exhibitions, such as the 1937 Paris Exhibition. Eventually, a store was opened at 26 Ilica Street, Zagreb's busiest street. Expansion continued, and a store opened in Belgrade at 2 Poenkarova Street, in the heart of the city. Stubičke Toplice
Stubičke Toplice () is a municipality in Croatia in the Krapina-Zagorje County. With its centuries-old tourist tradition, it is a very popular vacation spot located in the continental part of the country, serving as a spa center and health resort. Connected by the state road D307 and L202 railway it is located 40 kilometers (25 miles) north from the country's capital city Zagreb.
