Sleeping Bag (band)
Sleeping Bag is an American alternative/indie rock band based out of Bloomington, Indiana, United States. History Sleeping Bag formed in March 2010, when drummer and singer Dave Segedy began playing with bassist David Woodruff and guitarist Lewis Rogers. Segedy had previously performed as a solo artist under the name Whoa Bro Awesome, adding guitar parts for the act's 2008 eponymous EP with Musical Family Tree. In 2011, Sleeping Bag released the self-titled ''Sleeping Bag'' through Joyful Noise Recordings; a limited number of digital downloads included a literal sleeping bag. The album featured the single "Slime". The band’s sophomore album, ''Women Of Your Life'', was released in November 2012. For their third album, ''Deep Sleep'', Dave Segedy enlisted guitarist Tyler Smith and bassist Glenn Meyers; the record was released on Joyful Noise in 2014. Bloomington, Indiana
Bloomington is a city in and the county seat of Monroe County in the central region of the U.S. state of Indiana. It is the seventh-largest city in Indiana and the fourth-largest outside the Indianapolis metropolitan area. According to the Monroe County History Center, Bloomington is known as the "Gateway to Scenic Southern Indiana". The city was established in 1818 by a group of settlers from Kentucky, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Virginia who were so impressed with "a haven of blooms" that they called it Bloomington. The population was 79,168 at the 2020 census. Bloomington is the home to Indiana University Bloomington, the flagship campus of the IU System. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge, shoegaze, and Britpop subgenres in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. The emergence of Generation X as a cultural force in the 1990s also contributed greatly to the rise of alternative rock. "Alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream or commercial rock or pop. Joyful Noise Recordings
Joyful Noise Recordings is an independent record label from Indianapolis, Indiana. The label was founded in 2003 in Bloomington, Indiana by Karl Hofstetter, who also played drums on many of the label's first releases. Joyful Noise maintains an active roster of over 30 bands playing various musical styles, though according to the label, each artist "in one way or another bridges the gap between pop and noise." History In 2010 Joyful Noise began focusing largely on limited edition specialty releases which are generally released on analog formats packaged with music downloads. Rozwell Kid is an American indie rock band formed in 2011 in West Virginia, United States. They released their first studio album on Broken World Media and their most recent album on SideOneDummy. History Rozwell Kid began in 2011 with the release of an album titled ''The Rozwell Kid LP''. In February 2013, Rozwell Kid released their second album titled ''Unmacho''. In October 2013, Rozwell Kid released a split with Sleeping Bag titled ''Dreamboats''.
