Thrasher is an American skateboarding media brand founded in January 1981 by Eric Swenson and Fausto Vitello, who also founded Independent Truck Company, and officially launched as a skateboard magazine. Since the 1990s, Thrasher has expanded its presence in television, video production, online blogging and merchandising. James Kendall "Jake" Phelps (September 24, 1962 – March 14, 2019) was an American skateboarder and magazine editor. Phelps led the magazine ''Thrasher'' as editor-in-chief for 27 years. Early life James Kendall Phelps was born in San Francisco, California, to parents Kitty and Kendall Phelps, and lived there until the age of 11. His parents called him , which eventually became "Jake". He had a sister, Marie. After his parents split up, he lived with his mother in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Phelps began skating at the age of 13. In 1977, Phelps began working at Zero Gravity, a skate park in Cambridge, Massachusetts. For a short time, he was hired by PepsiCo to do skate demos in schools. Jamie Foy (born June 14, 1996) is an American regular-footed skateboarder. He was crowned 2017 and 2024 Skater of the Year by ''Thrasher'' magazine. He skates for Death Wish Skateboards, Thunder Trucks, Spitfire Wheels, Redbull and New Balance Numeric. Career Foy was born and grew up in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He started skating and entering local skate contests at a young age. Foy started his career in 2013 and won several competitions in Florida, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. In 2016, Foy moved to Los Angeles and quickly gained popularity after appearing in 7 videos in 2016 and 2017. Birdhouse Skateboards (originally Birdhouse Projects) is an American skateboard company formed by ex- Powell Peralta professional skateboarders Tony Hawk and Per Welinder in 1992. Birdhouse makes decks and wheels, as well as clothing and accessories. Andrew Reynolds (born June 6, 1978) is an American professional skateboarder known for co-founding Baker Skateboards in 2000 with artist Jay Strickland. He is now Baker Skateboard's sole owner. Reynolds established Bakerboys Distribution with Erik Ellington and Jim Greco in 2007. Bakerboys Distribution provides distribution for closely related in-house skateboard companies such as Deathwish Skateboards and Shake Junt. He is also the head of design at Altamont Apparel. Robert Dean Silva Burnquist (; born 10 October 1976) is a Brazilian-American professional skateboarder who competed for Brazil throughout his career. In 2010, he became the first skateboarder to land a " fakie 900" (900-degree reverse-natural rotation), making Burnquist the fifth person in history to successfully complete the 900 trick. Salman Agah (born July 10, 1972) is an American professional skateboarder and entrepreneur. Early life Salman Agah was born in Washington, D.C. to Persian and Azeri parents.
