George Jones
George Glenn Jones (September 12, 1931 – April 26, 2013) was an American Country music, country musician, singer, and songwriter. He achieved international fame for a long list of hit records, and is well known for his distinctive voice and phrasing. For the last two decades of his life, Jones is frequently referred to as "the greatest country singer", "The Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Rolls-Royce of Country Music", and had more than 160 chart singles to his name from 1955 until his death in 2013. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was discharged in 1953. In 1959, Jones recorded "White Lightning (The Big Bopper song), White Lightning", written by The Big Bopper, which launched his career as a singer. Years of alcoholism compromised his health and led to his missing many performances, earning him the nickname "No Show Jones." Jones died in 2013, aged 81, from hypoxic respiratory failure. ''Ladies' Choice'' is an album by American country music artist George Jones, released in 1984 on the Epic Records label. It was composed largely of duets with female artists. Background ''Ladies' Choice'' was Jones's fifth album of duets in five years, beginning with ''My Very Special Guests'' (1979), ''Double Trouble'' with Johnny Paycheck (1980), ''Together Again'' with Tammy Wynette (1980), and ''A Taste of Yesterday's Wine'' with Merle Haggard (1982). The singer had also scored a top ten duet with Ray Charles on "We Didn't See A Thing" in 1983, a single that also featured guitar solos from Chet Atkins. Billy Norris Sherrill (November 5, 1936 – August 4, 2015) was an American record producer, songwriter, and arranger associated with country artists, notably Tammy Wynette and George Jones. Sherrill and business partner Glenn Sutton are regarded as the defining influences of the countrypolitan sound, a smooth amalgamation of pop and country music that was popular during the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s. Sherrill also co-wrote many hit songs, including " Stand by Your Man" (written with Tammy Wynette) and "The Most Beautiful Girl" (written with Rory Bourke and Norro Wilson).
