Sinezona Subantarctica
''Sinezona'' is a genus of minute sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks or micromollusks in the family Scissurellidae, the little slit shells. Description The shell has turbinate or depressed turbinate form. The anal fissure is closed, forming a foramen in the outer wall of the aperture. The slit fasciole is shorter, not over 1½ whorls in length. ''Sinezona'' is a ''Scissurella'' in which the anal slit becomes closed in the adult, and transformed into an oblong perforation like one of the holes of a ''Haliotis''. Distribution This marine genus occurs worldwide. Species Species in the genus ''Sinezona'' include: * '' Sinezona bandeli'' Marshall, 2002 * '' Sinezona beddomei'' (Petterd, 1884) * '' Sinezona brevis'' (Hedley, 1904) * '' Sinezona brucei'' Geiger, 2012 * '' Sinezona calumnior'' Geiger, 2012 * '' Sinezona carolarum'' Geiger & McLean, 2010 * '' Sinezona chilensis'' Geiger, 2012 * '' Sinezona cingulata'' (O.G. Harold John Finlay
Harold John Finlay (22 March 1901 – 7 April 1951) was a New Zealand palaeontologist and conchologist. Biography Finlay was born in Comilla, India (now Bangladesh), on 22 March 1901, to a family of Baptist missionaries. He was left a paraplegic after contracting poliomyelitis at the age of four, but was able to participate in field excursions. The family moved to Dunedin in 1906. He graduated from the University of Otago with B.Sc. and M.Sc. He received the Hamilton Memorial Prize of the New Zealand Institute in 1926 and a D.Sc. in 1927. His main research interest was marine and non-marine malacofauna of New Zealand, both recent and fossil. Much of his work focused on mollusc taxonomy and biostratigraphy. After graduation, Finlay ran into financial hardship, living off of research grants, and occasional work as a contract consultant for oil exploration companies. Finlay was appointed to the Geological Survey of New Zealand in 1937, where he worked a micropaleontologist st ...

Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=492810 on 2013-03-23 Description The white shell reaches a height of 1 mm. The solid shell has a depressed, turbinate shape. It is openly perforate to imperforate. The sculpture shows distant longitudinal lamellate ribs that cross the whorl from the suture to the umbilicus. Their interstices contain raised spiral threads, which grow coarser on approaching the umbilicus. The protoconch contains 1½ whorl, concluding with a prominent varix. The three whorls are tabulate above, and rounded below. The body whorl descends rapidly. The aperture is roundly ovate. The sharp outer lip is convex. The inner lip spreads as a distinct callosity over the body, and sometimes seals the umbilicus partly or wholly up. The colu ...
