Silver Wings (film)
''Silver Wings'' is a 1922 American drama film directed by Edwin Carewe and John Ford. Ford directed only the prologue of the film. Plot As described in a film magazine, Uncle Andrew (Brooke) lives with Anna (Carr) and John Webb (Hammond), and rejoices when the Webbs get an offer of $10,000 for his invention, but Mother Webb advises building their own factory and taking a chance on the invention. Her advice proves wise, and by the time the children are grown, the family is on its way to prosperity. Harry (Striker), the elder son and mother's favorite, gives her the affection she craves, but she cannot see his shallowness, deceit, and general unworthiness. John (Helton), both as a child and when grown, suffers for his brothers sins, at last taking the blame for his brother's thefts from the factory. The United States Army Maneuver Center of Excellence Command Exhibition Parachute Team, commonly known as the Silver Wings, is the official demonstration parachute team of Fort Benning, Georgia, United States Army. It is made up of US Army Paratroopers who have demonstrated excellence in parachuting skills, drawn primarily from the 1st Battalion of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Benning. History In 1958 a group of experienced parachutists from 1-507 Parachute Infantry Regiment formed the Fort Benning Sport Parachute Club in order to recreationally hone their free-fall parachuting skills on the weekends. Their efforts to promote the club and talent in the air brought higher-level attention to the club over the following seven years. Renamed the 5000 Jumpers, the club conducted its first official demonstration at the Fort Benning Airfield in 1962. Silver Wings is an American service organization self-governed by college students. With minor supervision, Silver Wings works jointly with the Arnold Air Society (AAS) nationwide to promote leadership skills, military awareness, and professional development. History Silver Wings, originally known as Angel Flight, was founded at the University of Omaha as a local auxiliary organization in 1951, and formed as a national organization in 1952. Starting out as an all-female organization, Angel Flight was more of a national idea with various names. While these organizations across the country had different names, they were all focused on helping their local AFROTC unit. In April 1957, representatives from 16 different groups came together at the 8th National Conclave of Arnold Air Society to join their purposes under a National Coordination Headquarters.
