Silly (; ; ) is a Municipalities of Belgium, municipality of Wallonia located in the Hainaut Province, province of Hainaut, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Silly had a total population of 7,995. The total area is which gives a population density of 118 inhabitants per km2. The name of the town derives from its stream, called the ''Sille'' (French language, French) or ''Zulle'' (Dutch language, Dutch), and has no relation to the English word. Fielding (cricket)
Fielding in the sport of cricket is the action of fielders in collecting the ball after it is struck by the striking batter, to limit the number of runs that the striker scores and/or to get a batter out by either catching a hit ball before it bounces, or by running out either batter before they can complete their current run. There are a number of recognised fielding positions and they can be categorised into the offside and leg side of the field. Fielding also involves trying to prevent the ball from making a boundary where four "runs" are awarded for reaching the perimeter and six for crossing it without touching the grass. A fielder may field the ball with any part of their body. Silliness is defined as engaging in "a ludicrous folly", showing a "lack of good sense or judgment", or "the condition of being frivolous, trivial, or superficial". Roland Silly (1909–1995) was a French trade unionist and politician. In the 1930s, Roland Silly was Secretary of the Federation (or section) of technicians of the CGT and member of the Socialist Party SFIO, led by Paul Faure. John Silly
John Sill (c 1621–1672) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1659 and 1660. Silly was the second son of John Silly (died 1646) of Trevelver, Cornwall, and his first wife Elizabeth Marke, daughter of John Marke of St Wenn. His father, an attorney, had altered his name and arms from Ceely to Silly. In 1659, Silly was elected Member of Parliament for Bodmin in the Third Protectorate Parliament. In 1660, he was re-elected MP for Bodmin in the Convention Parliament. Silly inherited the St Wenn estates of his grandfather. In 1667, on the death of his nephew, he also inherited the Silly estates at Trevelver to which he promptly moved. François Gilbert Léopold Silly (24 October 1927 – 18 December 2001), known professionally as Gilbert Bécaud (), was a French singer, composer, pianist and actor, known as "Monsieur 100,000 Volts" for his energetic performances. His best-known hits are " Nathalie" and "Et maintenant", a 1961 release that became an English language hit as " What Now My Love". He remained a popular artist for nearly fifty years, identifiable in his dark blue suits, with a white shirt and "lucky tie"; blue with white polka dots. When asked to explain his gift he said, "A flower doesn't understand botany." His favourite venue was the Paris Olympia under the management of Bruno Coquatrix. He debuted there in 1954 and headlined in 1955, attracting 6,000 on his first night, three times the capacity. "Silly" is a song written by Fritz Baskett, Clarence McDonald and Deniece Williams and performed by Williams. The soulful ballad was released off Williams' '' My Melody'' album in 1981 and became the most successful track off the album reaching as high as number fifty-three on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 becoming an even bigger success on the R&B chart where it peaked at number eleven. It has since gone on to become one of Williams' most requested songs over a career that has spanned over thirty years. The song featured production by Williams and respected Philly soul producer Thom Bell. The song was recorded at Philadelphia's acclaimed Sigma Sound Studios. The song would be later covered by singer Taral Hicks nearly two decades later in 1997 and was released as the second single off Hicks' debut album becoming a hit on the R&B chart. Silly (band)
Silly is a German rock band. Founded in East Germany in 1977, Silly was one of the country's most popular music acts, and was well known for its charismatic lead singer Tamara Danz. Her death in 1996 ended the band's recording career after 18 years. In 2005 the surviving members began to perform as Silly again, first with several guest singers, before choosing actress Anna Loos to replace Danz. The first album with the new line-up, ''Alles Rot'', became the band's most successful to date, reaching number 3 on the German charts in 2010.
