Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars
Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars (also called Refugee All Stars) is a band from Sierra Leone which was formed by a group of refugees displaced to Guinea during the Sierra Leone Civil War. Since their return to Freetown in 2004, the band has toured extensively to raise awareness for humanitarian causes. Their story is documented in the 2005 documentary film ''Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars (film), Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars''. Their debut album, ''Living Like a Refugee'', was released on the label Anti in Europe on 25 September 2006, and in the US on September, 26 2006. Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars' second studio album, ''Rise & Shine (Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars album), Rise & Shine'', was released 23 March 2010 by Cumbancha, and earned 2010 Album of the Year on the World Music Charts Europe. ''Radio Salone'' (2012) is the third album from Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars. It was produced by artist and producer Victor Axelrod aka "Ticklah," who has worked with Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Amy Winehouse and the Easy Star All Stars, and recorded at Dunham Studios in Brooklyn, NY. With two records in their pockets, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars blend the vibrant sounds of traditional West Africa, along with all the grooves they have picked up throughout their travels since their formation in the Guinean Sembakounya Refugee Camp. Fuji Rock Festival
is an annual music festival, rock festival held in Naeba Ski Resort, in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The three-day event, organized by Smash (Music promoters), Smash Japan, features more than 200 Japanese and international musicians, making it the largest outdoor music event in Japan. In 2005, more than 100,000 people attended the festival. Fuji Rock Festival is named so because the first event in 1997 was held at the base of Mount Fuji. Iestyn Polson is an English music producer, engineer, songwriter, musician, and mixer best known for his work with David Gray, Patti Smith and David Bowie. Originally from London, Polson is currently based in New York City. Iestyn Polson grew up in London, England, and formed his first band at age 11. Polson learned to play multiple instruments throughout his childhood and later became interested in record production. Through engineering in studios in London, Polson was introduced to singer/songwriter David Gray who was compiling demos at the time. Chris Velan
Chris Velan is a Montreal-based singer-songwriter and guitarist. Career While in college, he studied law. After passing the bar, he traveled to West Africa where he was the music producer of a documentary film about a group of refugee musicians from Sierra Leone. In 2003 Velan returned from West Africa, releasing his debut solo album ''It's Not What You Think'', which incorporated a mix of his old and new influences ranging from folk, pop and rock to world music and reggae.
