Side By Side (1982 Film)
''Side by Side: The True Story of the Osmond Family'' is a 1982 American made-for-television biographical film about the earlier years of the famed entertainment family, starring Marie Osmond as matriarch Olive Osmond, and Joseph Bottoms as patriarch George Osmond. This film was released on VHS tape in 1998 but has never had an official DVD issue. ''Side by Side'' would be followed 19 years later by ''Inside the Osmonds'', which focuses on the family's breakthrough years as pop stars with an entirely new cast. Plot The film focuses on the early life of the Osmond Brothers and how they became successful musicians. It also highlights the origins of their parents George Osmond and Olive Davis from as early as World War II. Tom Lazarus
Tom Lazarus (born 1942) is an American screenwriter, director and producer. He is best known for writing the 1999 horror film ''Stigmata'', and is the author of the screenwriting manuals, ''Secrets of Film Writing'' (2001, Griffin) and ''The Last Word: Definitive Answers to All Your Screenwriting Questions'' (2012, Michael Wiese Productions). He has won more than two dozen international film festival honors including Best Educational Film of the Year at the San Francisco Film Festival and a nomination for a CLIO for directing a Fair House Public Service TV spot. Thomas Rulon Osmond (born October 26, 1947) is a member of the Osmond family, though he rarely performs with his musical family. Life and career Childhood Osmond was born in Ogden, Utah, to Olive May (; 1925–2004) and George Virl Osmond (1917–2007). The second of nine children, he has one older brother, George Virl Osmond Jr., and seven younger siblings: Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie and Jimmy. All of his younger siblings have been professional musicians since childhood. Tom and Virl were both born with severe hearing loss. The Osmonds were an American family music group who reached the height of their fame in the early to mid-1970s. The group had its best-known configurations as a quartet (billed the Osmond Brothers) and a quintet (the Osmonds). The group has consisted of siblings who are all members of a family of musicians from Ogden, Utah, and have been in the public eye since the 1960s. Osmond Studios (known as the Osmond Entertainment Center) was a television and audio recording production studio built in Orem, Utah by The Osmonds in 1977. It housed the Osmond's production company, Osmond Productions. The studio was where many of the '' Donny & Marie'' television series and ''The Osmond Family Show'', were produced. The studio was located at 777 N Palisades Drive in Orem, Utah. The 91,000-square foot complex offered a 17,800 two-story office area and two major production studios with a combined 21,300 square feet of space. A mobile ice-skating rink was incorporated for presenting a weekly ice-skating number. The main production floor had sectional seating for 280 audience members.
