La Sila
La Sila, also simply Sila, is the name of the mountainous plateau and historic region located in Calabria, southern Italy. The Sila National Park is known to have the purest air in Europe. Geography The Sila occupies part of the provinces of Cosenza, Crotone and Catanzaro, and is divided (from north to south) into the sub-ranges ''Sila Greca'', ''Sila Grande'' and ''Sila Piccola'' ("Greek", "Greater" and "Lesser Sila", respectively). The highest peaks are the Botte Donato (1,928 m), in the Sila Grande, and Monte Gariglione (1,764 m) in the Sila Piccola. The Sila Greca is the northernmost section and is now mostly cultivated rather than thick woods. Around this area, Albanian villages such as San Demetrio Corone sprang up when Albanians were fleeing the wrath of Muslim invaders. Sila María Calderón
Sila María Calderón Serra (born September 23, 1942) is a Puerto Rican politician, businesswoman, and philanthropist who was the governor of Puerto Rico from 2001 to 2005. She is the first woman elected to that office. Prior to her term as governor, Calderón held various positions in the government of Puerto Rico, including the 12th Secretary of State of Puerto Rico from 1988 to 1989, and Chief of Staff to Governor Rafael Hernández Colón. She was also mayor of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico, from 1997 to 2001. Sila And The Afrofunk Experience
Sila and the Afrofunk Experience is an Afrofunk band formed in 2003. As a child growing up in Kenya, Sila Mutungi discovered Western music through his deeply religious grandmother's radio. He honed his musical craft by singing original songs in church. In 1986, he moved to Washington, D.C., ostensibly to attend college (a move partially financed by tribespeople who sold cows to raise tuition money), but instead used the funds to pay for a demo tape to pursue his dreams of a music career. However, the music industry, at that time, wasn't interested in an R&B singer with a heavy Kenyan accent. Ten years later, having relocated to San Francisco, Sila experienced an epiphany during a Baaba Maal concert at The Fillmore. Sila Region
Sila or Dar Sila is a region of Chad, located in the south-east of the country. It was created in 2008 from the departments of Sila and Djourf Al Ahmar which were previously part of Ouaddaï Region. The capital of the region is Goz Beïda. Geography The region borders Ouaddaï Region to the north, Sudan to the east, the Central African Republic to the south-east, Salamat Region to the south-west, and Guéra Region to the west. The terrain is generally flat savannah, with some scattered hills. Sila Godoy
Cayo Sila Godoy (4 December 1919 – 2 September 2014) was a classical guitarist from Paraguay. Youth Cayo Sila Godoy was born in Villarrica Paraguay on December 4, 1919. His mother and his uncles were talented musicians who exposed him at an early age to the piano, violin, mandolin, harp and tropical guitar. He studied music first with his uncle Marciano Echauri, and from the age of 16, harmony with Juan Carlos Moreno Gonzalez. Sila left his home of Villarrica at the age of 16 to accept a scholarship at the National Music Conservatory in Asunción, Paraguay. By age 24 he graduated from the conservatory as a professor of music theory and musicology. Following graduation he was awarded a grant to continue his musical education in Buenos Aires, where he remained for nine years under the tutelage of Consuelo Mallo López.
