Shravana Kumara
Shravana Kumara () is a character mentioned in the ancient Hindu text ''Ramayana.'' He is best known for his filial piety towards his parents. He was killed accidentally by King Dasharatha. Life Shravana Kumara's parents, Shantanu and Gyanvanti (Malaya), were hermits. They were both blind. When they became aged, Shravana wanted to take them to the four most sacred places of Hindu pilgrimage to purify the soul. Since Shravana Kumara could not afford the transport, he decided to put each parent in a basket and tie each basket to an end of a bamboo pole, which he would carry on his shoulder while on their pilgrimage. According to Punjabi folklore, Shravana's mother was distantly related to King Dasharatha. Shrawan Kumar, is an Indian-American geneticist, working in the fields of molecular and population genetics. He contributed to the discovery of two genes related to Branchio-oto-renal syndrome (BOR) and Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD2). Career Following the completion of his M.S. and Ph.D. in India, Shrawan Kumar joined the University of Nebraska Medical Center as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Omaha, Nebraska, USA, in 1988. Subsequently, he contributed to genetic research at the Boys Town National Research Hospital, which is affiliated with Creighton University Medical Center, holding positions as Associate Professor and Staff Scientist where his research initiatives were related to the exploration of genes associated with hearing loss and kidney disorders. Shrawan Kumar is the John R. and Louise S. Parker distinguished professor of mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has written two books: ''Kac-Moody groups, their flag varieties, and representation theory'' and ''Frobenius splitting methods in geometry and representation theory'' (jointly with ). Sharwan Kumar (2 October 1947) is an Indian politician serving as member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. He has been elected as member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly for six-terms. He is a member of the Indian National Congress. Political career He first fought assembly elections in 1993 from Pilani and won as an independent candidate and then he won 1998 and 2003 elections as an Congress candidate from Pilani constituency. In the 2008 Legislative Assembly Elections, he changed his constituency from Pilani to Surajgarh due to the reservation of the Pilani seat. He again won from Surajgarh, beating Bhartiya Janta Party Candidate Santosh Ahlawat by a margin of nearly 8000 votes.
