Shouter Movement
The Shouter movement (Swedish: or ) was the Swedish Christian revival that paved the way for the folk revival and free church movements in Sweden. Maids, children, peasants' daughters and young men, in a state of calm or ecstatic excitement, delivered stirring sermons that drew large crowds. It was most prevalent in the provinces of Småland, Västergötland, Värmland and Närke. The revival reached its high point in the early 1840s. The movement was short-lived, essentially disappearing by 1843, but had a major impact on the growth of the folk revival. Background The roots of the Shouter movement have been traced to Hoofianism, an ascetic, Pietism, Pietist, Moravian Church, Moravian-influenced movement founded by revivalist priest Jacob Otto Hoof in Svenljunga. Religion in Sweden has, over the years, become increasingly diverse. Christianity was the religion of virtually all of the Swedish population from the 12th to the early 20th century, but it has rapidly declined throughout the late 20th and early 21st century. Christianity came to Sweden as early as the 9th century mainly as a result of an expansion in trade. The ancient Nordic religions were slowly replaced. Several centuries later all monarchs were Christian and Christianity became the established official religion. Project Runeberg ( sv, Projekt Runeberg) is a digital cultural archive initiative that publishes free electronic versions of books significant to the culture and history of the Nordic countries. Patterned after Project Gutenberg, it was founded by Lars Aronsson and colleagues at Linköping University and began archiving Nordic-language literature in December 1992. A sleeping preacher, also called trance-preacher, is a Christian, most often Protestant person who preaches, prophesies or addresses a public audience while "sleeping," that is, in a state of trance. History The first reports of sporadic trance preachers, often children, are from the 16th and 17th century in Germany. Immediately after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, a resistance movement broke out among the persecuted French Protestants of the Cevennes in Southern France. ''Nerikes Allehanda'' (shortened ''NA'') is a daily newspaper based in Örebro, Sweden, and distributed across Örebro County. It was founded in 1843 as a weekly paper and became a daily in 1894. The paper is owned by the media group LT Liberala Tidningar AB and the stated position of the editorial is "independently liberal". The name ''Nerikes Allehanda'' is roughly translated "All of Närke" (''allehanda'' is an older Swedish word meaning "of all sorts/kinds", and ''Nerike'' is an older Swedish spelling of Närke). History ''Nerikes Allehanda'' was founded in 1843 by Otto-Joel Gumaelius and Svante Falk. Falk was the owner of the printing house and Gumaelius, a devoted liberal, became its first editor. Skaraborg County ( sv, Skaraborgs län ) was a Counties of Sweden, county of Sweden from 1634 until 1997. It was disestablished at the end of 1997 when it was merged with the counties of Gothenburg and Bohus County, Gothenburg and Bohus and Älvsborg County, Älvsborg to form Västra Götaland County. The county was named after a fortress () outside the List of cities in Sweden, city of Skara. The seat of residence for the county governor was Mariestad from 1660 onwards and the largest city (during the 20th century) was first Lidköping and later Skövde.
