"Should've Known Better" is a hit song written, composed, and performed by American rock singer Richard Marx. It was released in September 1987 as the second single from his Triple Platinum-selling self-titled debut album. The song peaked at number three on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 as well as #7 on the ''Billboard'' Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in 1987 and #4 on the Radio & Records CHR/Pop Airplay chart. Marx became the first solo artist in recording history to reach the top three of the Billboard Hot 100 with four singles from a debut album. In the lyrics, the speaker is still in love with an ex-lover and tortured by it, to the point of regretting falling in love with her. The music video for the selection was directed by Dominic Sena. Richard Noel Marx (born September 16, 1963) is an American adult contemporary and pop rock singer-songwriter. He has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Marx's self-titled debut album went triple-platinum in 1987, and his first single, " Don't Mean Nothing", reached number three on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Between 1987 and 1994, he had 14 top 20 hits, including three number one singles. Marx is the only male artist in history to have his first seven singles reach the top 5 of the ''Billboard'' charts. ''RPM'' ( and later ) was a Canadian music-industry publication that featured song and album charts for Canada. The publication was founded by Walt Grealis in February 1964, supported through its existence by record label owner Stan Klees. ''RPM'' ceased publication in November 2000. ''RPM'' stood for "Records, Promotion, Music". The magazine's title varied over the years, including ''RPM Weekly'' and ''RPM Magazine''. The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. John Waldo "Fee" Waybill (born September 17, 1950 in Omaha, Nebraska) is the lead singer and songwriter of San Francisco band The Tubes. Waybill has also worked with other acts, including Toto, Richard Marx, and Billy Sherwood. Early life and education Waybill moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in the 1950s and grew up in the Southwest Village area. He then attended Arizona State University, where he had planned to study oceanography. Ultimately, he discovered acting and decided to pursue that as a field of study. Waybill eventually dropped out of college and, while hanging out in the Verde Valley of Arizona, got to know his future bandmates, Roger Steen and Prairie Prince. Charles Lempriere "Prairie" Prince (born May 7, 1950) is an American drummer and graphic artist. He came to prominence in the 1970s as a member of the San Francisco–based rock group The Tubes, was a member of Jefferson Starship from 1992 to 2008, and has worked with a wide range of other performers as a session musician.
