Homecoming (Gateway Album)
''Homecoming'' is an album by Gateway, a trio composed of John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette. It was recorded in 1994 and released on the ECM label in 1995 and is the trio's first album since ''Gateway 2'' in 1978. Reception An AllMusic review by Greg Turner stated "The Gateway Trio is a cooperative in the greatest sense of the word... As a result there is always a great sense of interplay between Abercrombie's sometimes-mellow-sometimes-distorted guitar, Holland's huge toned bass, and DeJohnette's dancing drums... This is a fine return to recording for a great group". A separate AllMusic review by Scott Yanow stated: "the high improvisational level makes this a set deserving of close listens." Regarding the album's title track, Tyran Grillo wrote: "The joy in every lick and tumble is in full evidence. DeJohnette is afl ...

Titled after her present hot single, the LP displays Tucker at her best, giving a good ride to several strong songs. Jerry Crutchfield's production is on the mark and he has combined an unusual assemblage of musicians—from Johnny Christopher to Mylon LeFevre—to provide an impressive instrumental and vocal background. ''Safari'' entered the English language at the end of the 1850s thanks to explorer Richard Francis Burton. The Regimental March of the King's African Rifles was "Funga Safari", literally 'set out on a journey', or, in other words, pack up equipment ready for travel. Which is, in English: On Kenya's independence from the United Kingdo ...
