History The railway line from Brisbane to Sandgate opened in 1882, and the terminal station, located near Curlew Street, was named Sandgate. The line was extended to Shorncliffe in 1897, and the name Sandgate was transferred to the new terminal station. In 1938 it was renamed Shorncliffe. Airtrain (also known as the Airport railway line) is the privately owned commuter railway line that extends northeast from Brisbane ( from Central station by rail), the state capital of Queensland, to Brisbane Airport at both its separate International and Domestic terminals. It was opened in 2001. The line is carried on an elevated prestressed concrete viaduct for its entire length after branching off from the Queensland Rail network at Eagle Junction railway station. The Sunshine Coast railway line refers to the section of Queensland's North Coast line that has regular interurban passenger services, which connect Brisbane with the Sunshine Coast and as far north as Gympie. Cross River Rail (CRR) is an Rapid transit, underground heavy rail project currently under construction in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The project will see the development of a new rail line underneath the Brisbane River, together with the redevelopment of a number of stations in the Brisbane central business district as well as the Beenleigh railway line. The business case for the project was released in August 2017, with construction officially beginning in September 2017.
