Shock (The Motels Song)
"Shock" is a song by American new wave band The Motels, which was released in 1985 as the second single from their fifth studio album ''Shock''. The song was written by Martha Davis and Scott Thurston, and produced by Richie Zito. "Shock" peaked at number 84 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Music video The song's music video was directed by David Fincher. It achieved light rotation on MTV. Critical reception On its release, ''Billboard'' noted the "clean, sharp dance sound, with Davis squarely out front". ''Cash Box'' described it as a "heavily percussive cut" which "has all the raw urgency and dynamic tension fthis band's uptempo tunes". In a review of ''Shock'', J. A. White of ''The Morning Call'' considered it to have "a basic, hard Pat Benatar-like sound with some Michael Jackson touches and oriental synth-funk embellishments here and there". The Motels
The Motels are an American new wave band from Berkeley, California, that is best known for the singles " Only the Lonely" and " Suddenly Last Summer", each of which peaked at No. 9 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, in 1982 and 1983, respectively. In 1980, The Motels' song " Total Control" reached No. 7 on the Australian chart (for two weeks), and their song " Danger" reached No. 15 on the French chart. Martha Davis, the lead singer, reformed a version of the band called "The Motels featuring Martha Davis" in 1998 and toured under that name with various lineups of musicians. Steve Thompson is an American record producer and remixer who has worked with artists including Guns N' Roses, Life of Agony, Tesla, Madonna, John Lennon, Wu-Tang Clan and Korn. Biography Steve Thompson is a native New Yorker. As a youth, he worked as a DJ in New York City. He was mentored by music moguls David Geffen and Clive Davis early in his career. At Geffen Records, he got his first real break in the rock genre as a mixer on the 1987 Guns N' Roses album ''Appetite for Destruction'' that would become Geffen's most successful album. Brian Glascock (born 17 July 1948, Islington, North London) is an English rock drummer for The Gods, Toe Fat, Carmen, Captain Beyond, Soy Cowboy, and primarily for The Motels. He also played on albums by Dolly Parton, Iggy Pop, and Joan Armatrading. He performed in a music video with Nancy Wilson of Heart. He has also performed much session work including The Bee Gees track "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart", along with fellow Juniors guitarist Alan Kendall. He was also the drummer for The Kids of Widney High and played on their second album, "Let's Get Busy."
