Kynuna is an outback town in the Shire of McKinlay and a locality split between the Shire of McKinlay and the Shire of Winton in Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Kynuna had a population of 52 people. Geography Kynuna is on the banks of the Diamantina River. The town is located on the Landsborough Highway, north west of the state capital, Brisbane and south east of the regional centre of Mount Isa. The Richmond–Winton Road follows a section of the south-eastern boundary. Kynuna lies at the northern rim of a roughly circular zone measuring some across that has been identified by Geoscience Australia as a crustal anomaly. Proof is currently lacking as to the cause, but it is believed likely that the anomaly was caused by an asteroid strike that happened about 300 million years ago. Nelia is an outback town in the locality of Julia Creek in the Shire of Mckinlay, Queensland, Australia. Geography The town is just north off the Flinders Highway, north west of the state capital, Brisbane. '' The Inlander'' rail service from Townsville to Mount Isa on the Great Northern railway passes through Nelia, which is served by Nelia railway siding (). History The area was named by explorer William Landsborough after a friend of his wife. European settlement began in the 1870s with the establishment of the Willibah and Benannee runs. The Cannington Silver and Lead Mine is an Australian underground mine located in north-west Queensland, in the Shire of McKinlay, about southeast of Mount Isa. The deposit was discovered by BHP in 1990.Abstract The mine was the supplier of silver for the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics. Cannington takes its name from the pastoral property near the deposit. Geography Cannington lies on a broad plain with a few low mesas.
