Shirani (Pashtun Tribe)
The Shirani (), also spelled Sherani, are a Pashtun tribe, from the Sarbani tribal confederacy, who live in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Sherani are mostly settled in the Frontier Region Dera Ismail Khan, in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan and in the adjoining Sherani District of Balochistan, Pakistan. Some clans have settled in other surrounding districts of Balochistan; and in the Zabul, Ghazni, and Kandahar provinces of Afghanistan. Sherani district History Medieval era According to Syed Amin Amirzai, an elder of Frontier Region Dera Ismail Khan, Sherani was the name of the forefather of the tribe. He had four sons named Abubakar, Hassan, Marhal, and Kaif. The people of clan Oba Khail are descended from Abubakar, clan Hassan Khail from Hassan, clan Marhail from Marhal, and clan Kapip from Kaif. Marri (tribe)
The Marri are a Balochi-speaking tribe of the Baloch people, who inhabit a large arid region in northeastern Balochistan, Pakistan. The Marri area is bounded to the west by the plains of Sibi. To the north are the Kakar and Loni tribes of the Pashtuns; to the east lie the lands of the Khetrans, to the south the Bugti tribe. Traditionally, the Marri people, like other Baloch tribes, were nomads and earned their livelihood from grazing animals and fighting and raiding. Sherani District
Sherani or Shirani () is a rural district in the Zhob division of the Balochistan province in Pakistan. The district lies within the Sulaiman mountain range, and its highest point is the Takht-e-Sulaiman at 3,487 metres (11,440 ft). According to the 2023 census, it had a population of 191,687. Notable villages in the district include (also known as Dargah), Karama, Zarkai Landawar, Shinghar, Tsappar Kili, and Manikhawa (Mani Kwa). Administration Before 2006, Sherani was a subdivision (sub-district) of Zhob district. The new district was created on 3 January 2006. Akhtar Sheerani
Akhtar Shīrānī (; born Muhammad Dawood Khan; 4 May 1905 – 9 September 1948), also spelled Sheerani or Sherani, was an Urdu romance poet. Early life and career He was born on 4 May 1905 as Muhammad Dawood Khan, into a family belonging to the Pashtun Shirani tribe which migrated to India with Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni and later settled in Tonk, Rajasthan. He was the son of Hafiz Mahmood Shirani, a scholar and teacher who began teaching at Islamia College, Lahore in 1921 before moving to Oriental College, Lahore, in 1928. Dawood moved to Lahore at a young age and spent most of his life there. He completed his Munshi Fazil (منشی فاضل) in 1921 and Adeeb Fazil (ادیب فاضل) in 1922, earning degrees in Arabic and Persian from Oriental College. Hafiz Mehmood Khan Shirani
Hafiz Mehmood Shirani (1880–16 February 1946) was an researcher and poet during the British era. He was the father of Urdu poet Akhtar Sheerani. He started teaching Urdu at Islamia College, Lahore in 1921. In 1928 he moved to Oriental College, Lahore. He was a researcher and his "Punjab Mein Urdu" theory made him famous. Sain Kamal Khan Sherani (Pashto:سايي کمال خان شیراني) (3 January 1924 – 5 November 2010) was the founding member and leader of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party a democratic Pashtun nationalist political party in Pakistan. Muhammad Khan Shirani (born 1948/1951) is a Pakistani cleric and politician who established Rabita Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (RJUI), a breakaway faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) over rifts with Fazal-ur-Rehman.
