Shira Banki's Way
Shira Banki's Way () is a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote moderation and discourse in Israeli society. The organization was established by the parents of Shira Banki, who was murdered at the Jerusalem gay pride parade in 2015. Shira Banki's parents lit a torch on Israel's Independence Day in 2022 for their work. Shira Banki On July 30, 2015, 16-year-old Shira Banki, from Jerusalem, was one of six attendees at the Jerusalem gay pride parade who were stabbed by Yishai Schlissel. Schlissel had been previously convicted for attempted murder at the 2005 Jerusalem pride parade, and had been recently released. Banki died at the hospital from her injuries, and Schlissel received life in prison for her murder. Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade
The Jerusalem gay pride parade () is an annual pride parade taking place in Jerusalem. Since the first March for Pride and Tolerance in 2002, Jerusalem Pride—"Love Without Border"—has become an established event in Jerusalem. In 2005 and 2015, Yishai Schlissel, a Haredi Judaism, Haredi Jewish man stabbed marchers with a knife, resulting in three injuries (2005) and in six injuries, one fatal (2015). He was arrested and convicted for the 2005 attack, and released from imprisonment three weeks before the 2015 parade. Yishai Schlissel
Yishai Schlissel (also spelled Shlisel; ; born 10 December 1975) is a convicted Israeli murderer. He stabbed marchers during the Jerusalem gay pride parade in 2005, for which he served ten years in prison. On 30 July 2015, during the 2015 Jerusalem gay pride, he stabbed 16-year-old Shira Banki to death and wounded five other people. The incident occurred just three weeks after his release from prison. On 24 August, Schlissel was indicted for murder, five counts of attempted murder, and wounding under aggravating circumstances, and detained until the end of proceedings. Located in the Galilee Panhandle between Metula and the city of Kiryat Shmona, it is at the border with Lebanon and falls under the jurisdiction of Mevo'ot HaHermon Regional Council.
