''Heart of a Dog'' (, ) is a novella by Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov. A biting satire of Bolshevism, it was written in 1925 at the height of the New Economic Policy, a period during which communism appeared to be relaxing in the Soviet Union. It is generally interpreted as an allegory of the communist revolution and "the revolution's misguided attempt to radically transform mankind". Its publication was initially prohibited in the Soviet Union, but it circulated in samizdat until it was officially released in the country in 1987. It was almost immediately adapted into Heart of a Dog (1988 film), a movie, which was aired in late 1988 on First Channel of Soviet Television, was widely praised and attracted many readers to the original Bulgakov text. ''The House of the Dead'' (, ''Zapiski iz Myortvogo doma'') is a semi-autobiographical novel published in 1860 to 1862 in the journal ''Vremya (magazine), Vremya'' by Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky. It has also been published in English under the titles ''Notes from the House of the Dead'', ''Memoirs from the House of the Dead'' and ''Notes from a Dead House'', which are more literal translations of the Russian title. The novel portrays the life of convicts in a Siberian prison camp. It is generally considered to be a fictionalised memoir; a loosely-knit collection of descriptions, events and philosophical discussion, organised around theme and character rather than plot, based on Dostoevsky's own experiences as a prisoner in such a setting. ''Three from Prostokvashino'' () is a 1978 Soviet animated film based on the 1974 children's book '' Uncle Fedya, His Dog, and His Cat'' by Eduard Uspensky. The main character is a six-year-old boy who is called "Uncle Fyodor" (voiced by Maria Vinogradova) because he is very serious. After his parents refuse to let him keep the talking cat (voiced by Oleg Tabakov), Uncle Fyodor leaves home. With the dog Sharik (voiced by Lev Durov), the three set up a home in the country village Prostokvashino ( rus, Простоквашино, p=prəstɐˈkvaʂɨnə, Простокваша = "soured milk"). Vostok (, translated as "East") was a class of single-pilot crewed spacecraft built by the Soviet Union. The first human spaceflight was accomplished with Vostok 1 on April 12, 1961, by Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. The Vostok programme made six crewed spaceflights from 1961 through 1963. This was followed in 1964 and 1965 by two flights of Vostok spacecraft modified for up to three pilots, identified as Voskhod. The Voskhod (, ''"Sunrise"'') was a spacecraft built by the Soviet Union's space program for human spaceflight as part of the Voskhod programme. It was a development of and a follow-on to the Vostok spacecraft. Voskhod 1 was used for a three-man flight whereas Voskhod 2 had a crew of two. They consisted of a spherical descent module (diameter ), which housed the cosmonauts, and instruments, and a conical equipment module (mass , long, wide), which contained propellant and the engine system. Voskhod was superseded by the Soyuz (spacecraft), Soyuz spacecraft in 1967. Design The Voskhod spacecraft was, essentially, a Vostok spacecraft that had a backup solid fuel retrorocket added to the top of the descent module.
