Shadow Cabinet Of Solomon Islands
The Shadow Cabinet of Solomon Islands is the parliamentary Opposition's alternative Cabinet in Solomon Islands. Solomon Islands is a Commonwealth realm with a Westminster system of government; the Shadow Cabinet is modelled on the British institution of the same name. The Opposition is formally known as "Her Majesty's Official Opposition". Current Shadow Cabinet The current Shadow Cabinet was appointed by Opposition Leader Steve Abana on 31 August 2010, following the general election on 4 August, and Abana's unsuccessful attempt to be elected to the premiership. It shadows Prime Minister Danny Philip's coalition Cabinet. Abana's Shadow Cabinet is also a coalition, albeit primarily composed of members of the Democratic Party. Parliamentary Opposition
Parliamentary opposition is a form of political opposition to a designated government, particularly in a Westminster-based parliamentary system. This article uses the term ''government'' as it is used in Parliamentary systems, i.e. meaning ''the administration'' or ''the cabinet'' rather than ''the state''. In some countries the title of "Official Opposition" is conferred upon the largest political party sitting in opposition in the legislature, with said party's leader being accorded the title "Leader of the Opposition". Mark Kemakeza
Mark Roboliu Kemakeza (born December 31, 1960) is a former member of the National Parliament of the Solomon Islands. He represented Ngella constituency (Central Province). He is from Savo Island, which is in the Central Province. In August 2010, newly elected Prime Minister Danny Philip appointed him Minister of Mines and Energy. In April 2011, he was sacked as he faced charges for corruption and abuse of office, accused of having "misappropriated $764,000 of public funds allocated for fishing projects in his constituency". His sacking coincided with several members of the Opposition joining the government, and he was replaced as Minister for Mines and Energy by Moses Garu. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. Aoke-Langalanga
Aoke/Langalanga, also known as Auki/Langalanga, is a parliamentary constituency electing one representative to the National Parliament of Solomon Islands. It is one of fourteen constituencies in Malaita Province. It is also a relatively new constituency, having been established for the Fifth Parliament in 1993. It had an electorate of 7,365 in 2006. Aoke/Langalanga was the constituency of Bartholomew Ulufa'alu when he became Prime Minister in 1997. Ulufa'alu lost the premiership in 2000, but continued to hold the seat until his death in 2007. This article lists political parties in Solomon Islands. Solomon Islands have a multi-party system with numerous political parties. Political culture In most elections, no one party has won an absolute majority of seats and so usually parties must work with each other to form coalition governments. The one exception is the 1989 election, when the People's Alliance Party (PAP) led by Solomon Mamaloni did win an absolute majority. However, in late 1990, Mamaloni broke away from the PAP and continued ruling in a coalition government until the 1993 election. Many parties are established immediately prior to an election and most are very short-lived. Some will achieve no parliamentary representation and dissolve within a year. Others will achieve parliamentary representation but, having served their purpose, are then discarded.
