Sex (Telex Album)
''Sex'' (alternately released as ''Birds and Bees'') is the third album by Belgian electronic group Telex, released in 1981. The album is notable for being the first collaboration between Telex and American pop group Sparks. Production Marc Moulin and Dan Lacksman were introduced to Ron Mael and Russell Mael of Sparks by their mutual friend, Lio. Facing pressures to release an album in English, Moulin extended an offer to the Maels to contribute lyrics to their upcoming LP. This prompted a long-term friendship between the two bands, and led directly to Lacksman's assistance with production of the 1983 album ''In Outer Space'' and 1986's Music That You Can Dance To. Due to concerns about censors and the album's title, the album was released in the UK as ''Birds and Bees'' (the phrase "the birds and the bees" is often used as a euphemism for "sex", especially by parents explaining to their children what it is). Telex (band)
Telex was a Belgian synth-pop group formed in 1978 by Marc Moulin, Dan Lacksman and Michel Moers, with the intention of "making something really European, different from rock, without guitar—and the idea was electronic music". History In 1979, mixing the aesthetics of disco, punk and experimental electronic music, they released a stripped-down synthesized cover version of "Twist à St. Tropez" by Les Chats Sauvages. They followed up with an ultra-slow cover of "Rock Around the Clock", a relaxed and dispassionate version of Plastic Bertrand's punk song "Ça Plane Pour Moi", and a mechanical cover of " Dance to the Music", originally by Sly Stone. Telex built its music entirely from electronic instruments, employing joyously irreverent humor. Dan Lacksman (born 19 May 1950) is a Belgian composer and sound engineer, artist and member of Telex, director of numerous acoustic albums, pop or jazz. He released the album ''Electric Dreams'' on 17 May 2013. Biography Dan Lacksman was born in Werl. He started learning music and piano when he was 12 years old. A year later, he received a tape recorder and a guitar for Christmas; he formed a band with school friends. They were playing songs of the Shadows, and some early compositions. He then discovered the music of the Beatles with their huge hit "She Loves You", and started composing more intensely, recording demo songs in his parents' dining room, which gradually became his first home studio, with the purchase of a second tape recorder and more instruments like a drumkit and a second-hand Fender Jazz Bass. The Birds And The Bees
"The birds and the bees" is a colloquial expression referring to a rite of passage in the lives of most children when parents begin sex education by explaining human sexuality and sexual intercourse to them. Meaning According to tradition, "the birds and the bees" is a metaphorical story sometimes told to children in an attempt to explain the mechanics and results of sexual intercourse through reference to easily observed natural events. ''Music That You Can Dance To'' is the fourteenth studio album by American Pop music, pop band Sparks (band), Sparks, released in September 1986 by MCA Records in the US and Consolidated Allied Records in the UK, two years after their previous studio album, ''Pulling Rabbits Out of a Hat'' (1984). Background ''Music That You Can Dance To'' was the band's most dance music inspired album since 1979's ''No. 1 in Heaven''. ''In Outer Space'' is the twelfth studio album by American pop duo Sparks, released in April 1983 by Atlantic Records. Brothers Ron and Russell Mael of Sparks self-produced the album. History and release By 1982, Sparks had begun to gain momentum in the American charts with the release of '' Whomp That Sucker'' (1981) and '' Angst in My Pants'' (1982), the latter from which the single " I Predict" was their first to enter the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, peaking at No. 60. In anticipation of ''In Outer Space'', " Cool Places" was released as the first single from the album in March 1983, reaching No. 49 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Marc Moulin
Marc Moulin (16 August 1942 – 26 September 2008) was a Belgian musician and journalist (print, radio, TV). In the early-mid seventies, he was the leader of the jazz-rock fusion, jazz-rock group Placebo (not to be confused with Placebo (band), the English rock band with the same name). He went on to become a member of the avant-rock band Aksak Maboul in 1977 and also formed the pop group Telex (band), Telex in 1978. Moulin was one of Belgium's jazz legends, making jazz-influenced records for over 30 years.
