Valença, Bahia
Valença is a Brazilian city in the state of Bahia and has an estimated population of 97,233. It is visited by tourists because it is the main access to the island of Ilha de Tinharé, famous for the town of Morro de São Paulo. The municipality contains part of the Caminhos Ecológicos da Boa Esperança Environmental Protection Area, created in 2003. The town Valença is the largest city in the Dendê Coast (costa do dendê), but it is also a placid 16th century colonial fishing town and a dynamic commercial and service center of the region. The Serra Grande Gold Mine is a gold mine located in Crixás in the Brazilian state of Goiás. The mine is jointly owned by AngloGold Ashanti and Kinross Gold Corporation Kinross Gold Corporation is a Canadian-based gold and silver mining company founded in 1993 and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Kinross currently operates six active gold mines, and was ranked fifth of the "10 Top Gold-mining Companies" ..., who share equal partnership. AngloGold Ashanti operates the mine, but revenue from the operation is evenly distributed between the two companies. In 2008, the Brazilian operations, including the Serra Grande Gold Mine, contributed 8% to AngloGold Ashanti's overall gold production.
