Serie A2, known for sponsorship reasons as Serie A2 Old Wild West, is a men's basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Italy. It constitutes the second-tier of the Italian basketball league system, Italian league pyramid, below the first division Lega Basket Serie A, LBA and above the third division Serie B Basket, Serie B, with promotion and relegation, promotion/relegation occurring between these leagues. It is run by the Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro (LNP), itself regulated by the Federazione Italiana Pallacanestro, FIP, the Italian federation. Names History The league was created in May 1974, by the Lega Basket, the organisation in charge of running the Lega Basket Serie A, LBA (to this day), that decided to create a new second division with 10 clubs. Serie A2 is the second division of the Italian women's basketball championship. It was born together with Serie A1 in 1980-81 from the splitting of Serie A. Formula According to regulation, as the 2020-21 season the 28 participating teams are divided into two groups of 14 teams on a geographical basis. A First Phase is disputed with round trip matches. At the end of the First Phase, the teams classified from the first to the eighth place of each group are admitted to the Play Offs which designate the team admitted to the promotion play-off for Serie A1. Each round of Play Off is played at the best of three races. The Serie A2 was a minor baseball league in Italy from 1991 until 2021. Originally the second-highest division of the Italian baseball pyramid, it was part of a promotion and relegation system with the top-level Serie A1 (also known as the Italian Baseball League). In 2010, the Italian baseball system was temporarily reorganized into a fixed closed-franchise system, similar to MLB teams and MiLB teams; this was reversed in 2018 when promotion and relegation was reintroduced. The Serie A2 di pallanuoto maschile is the second division of the Italian men's water polo national championship. The tournament has 24 teams, which are divided into two groups of twelve teams each, based on geographical location. The first phase of the regular season has two groups of eight teams each: the North group and the South group. The top four teams of each group participate in a play-off. Semi-finals and finals are a best of three games. The winners of the two groups gain promotion to Serie A1. There are four relegations to Serie B in total. The tenth-placed team faces the eleventh-placed team from the opposing group, always in a best of three games.
