The Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Eastern America or Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Eastern America ( sr, Српска православна епархија источноамеричка) is a Serbian Orthodox Church diocese of the United States. Before 1984 it was known as the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Eastern America and Canada. History The Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Eastern America was first created in 1983 by dividing the ''Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Eastern America and Canada'' in two separate eparchies: Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Eastern America and Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Canada. The Holy Assembly of Bishops of 1991 ceded areas in South America to this diocese. The Serbian Orthodox Church ( sr-Cyrl, Српска православна црква, Srpska pravoslavna crkva) is one of the autocephalous ( ecclesiastically independent) Eastern Orthodox Christian churches. The majority of the population in Serbia, Montenegro and the Republika Srpska entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina are members of the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is organized into metropolitanates and eparchies, located primarily in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Croatia. Other congregations are located in the Serb diaspora. The Serbian Patriarch serves as first among equals in his church. The current patriarch is Porfirije, enthroned on 19 February 2021.
