Senior Ice Hockey
Senior hockey refers to amateur or semi-professional ice hockey competition. There are no age restrictions for Senior players, who typically consist of those whose junior ice hockey, Junior eligibility has expired. Senior hockey leagues operate under the jurisdiction of Hockey Canada or USA Hockey. They are not affiliated in any way with professional hockey leagues. Many former professional players play Senior hockey after their pro careers are over. The top Senior teams in Canada (Senior AAA) compete annually for the Allan Cup. Big 6 Hockey League
The Big 6 Hockey League is a senior men's ice hockey league in south-eastern Saskatchewan, Canada. There are currently nine teams in the league. The league began in 1959-1960 with four teams, the Bienfait Coalers, Frobisher, Saskatchewan, Frobisher Flyers, Glen Ewen Eagles, and Oxbow, Saskatchewan, Oxbow Aces. The teams compete for the Lincoln Trophy. The Bienfait Coalers have been the most successful team in league history with 15 championships. Black Diamond Hockey League
The Black Diamond Hockey League (BDHL) was a semi-professional ice hockey league consisting of teams from the Western United States. Teams competed for the Joe Casey Cup, named in honor of the former Jackson Hole Moose team captain who died suddenly at the age of 37. History The league was founded in 2014 with four member clubs: the Bozeman Stingers, Jackson Hole Moose, Park City Pioneers, and Sun Valley Suns. Teams played a 12-game schedule followed by a single-elimination playoff with the winner awarded the Joe Casey Cup. In the first-ever league game, Jackson Hole shut out Park City 4-0. Jackson Hole upset regular season winner Sun Valley, who were a perfect 12-0, to capture the first league championship. Season two in the BDHL saw the Park City Pioneers folding. Mountain West Hockey League
The Mountain West Hockey League (MWHL) is a Senior ice hockey league consisting of teams from the Western United States. History The MWHL was founded in Las Vegas, Nevada by Thomas Brown in 2012. It is a Senior A ice hockey league with clubs spanning the western United States. MWHL clubs are composed of North American and European players with junior, college, and professional experience. The MWHL features two geographic divisions: Sierra and Rocky. The MWHL regular season runs from November through March. The club with the best record at the end of the regular season is awarded the Commissioner's Cup. The MWHL Cup Playoffs are held in April, culminating in the MWHL Cup Finals. Great Lakes Hockey League (adult)
The Great Lakes Hockey League (GLHL) is an elite amateur full contact ice hockey league that is affiliated with USA Hockey. Players must be at least 18 years of age and many have previous NCAA College, Junior A, or Professional hockey experience. There are currently 10 teams in the league. The teams are all based in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Each team plays two games against every other team in the league. West Coast Senior Hockey League (British Columbia)
The West Coast Senior Hockey League (WCSHL) is a senior ice hockey league with teams based in Newfoundland and Labrador. The WCSHL was founded in 1996 as a senior B intermediate league and developed into a senior A league. It operated until the summer of 2011 when the WCSHL merged with the Avalon East Senior Hockey League to form the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League. The league resurfaced for the 2016–2017 season, with that season being shortened. For the 2017–2018 season it played an 18-game season, with teams based out of Corner Brook, Deer Lake, Stephenville, and Port aux Basques. Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League
The Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League is a senior ice hockey league with 16 franchises based in Eastern Ontario. History The EOSHL became a sanctioned Senior "A" league in 2003. In 2005, the league was promoted to Senior "AAA" to compete against the Major League Hockey (MLH) league and have a chance to win the Allan Cup. In 2006, the league dropped from six to four teams. During the 2007-08 season, a new team known as the Cooks Bay Canucks joined the league. What ensued with this franchise his quite original, as the team, although successful on the ice, underwent two name changes in the same season. The team started the season as the Cooks Bay Canucks, but soon dropped it for the Simcoe County Canucks. Although that does not sound too strange, the Canucks made the playoffs and before game two of the league semi-final announced another name change to the Simcoe County Tundras, with new logos, and completely different jerseys and team colours. The Central West Senior Hockey League (CWSHL) is a senior ice hockey league in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The league competed for the Herder Memorial Trophy and its teams declared themselves eligible for the Allan Cup.
