Senegal At The Paralympics
Senegal made its Paralympic Games début at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens. The country sent just two athletes (one man and one woman) to compete in track and field. It returned in 2008, with the same combination. Senegal has never taken part in the Winter Paralympics, and no Senegalese athlete has ever won a Paralympic medal. The Paralympic Games or Paralympics, also known as the ''Games of the Paralympiad'', is a periodic series of international multisport events involving athletes with a range of physical disabilities, including impaired muscle power and impaired passive range of movement, limb deficiency, leg length difference, short stature, hypertonia, ataxia, athetosis, vision impairment and intellectual impairment. The 2012 Summer Paralympics, branded as the London 2012 Paralympic Games, were an international multi-sport parasports event held from 29 August to 9 September 2012 in London, England, United Kingdom. They were the 14th Summer Paralympic Games as organised by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Bedford is a market town in Bedfordshire, England. Classification Athletes are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows athletes to compete against others with a similar level of function. Senegal At The Olympics
Senegal has sent athletes to all Summer Olympic Games held since 1964. Unlike most surrounding nations, Senegal has never missed any Summer Olympics since its independence. Only once has the country won an Olympic medal: Amadou Dia Ba, who won a silver medal in the men's 400 metre hurdles in 1988. However, Abdoulaye Seye, representing France, won a bronze medal in the 200 metres in 1960, just two months after the short lived Mali Federation gained independence and a few days after Senegal seceded from the federation. Senegal is among the small group of tropical countries that have participated in the Winter Olympic Games. Its winter athletes have participated in five Winter Olympics since 1984, although they have won no medals. Senegal was represented at the 1984, 1992 and 1994 by Lamine Guèye, and in 2006 and 2010 by Leyti Seck.
